So I was looking to start a guard army to supplement my current army of Blood Angels, as I’m kind of getting bored of them and I’m also not a fan of what GW is doing to the space marine range (give me back assault squads smh).
As a part of this I was looking to start a custom regiment, and I’m planning on using the Wargames Atlantic death fields range, primarily the bulldogs and potentially the Les Grognards command and support box with some head swaps. But that command and support box, if I haven’t missed something, seems to be offering 6, yes 6, light artillery weapons! Enough for 3 field ordnance batteries, for only £25, plus even some command figures?!
Very confused.
Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on that, or thoughts/recommendations on starting a custom regiment for guard?
Much appreciated,
Hobbit

The ones in the Les Grognards box are closer to Heavy Weapons Teams than the Field Ordnance Battery. Their upcoming Damned release (Traitor Guard) does have some artillery.

Or in GW stores. Tournament or not, they don't allow non-GW minis.

Ah ok that makes more sense, thanks! Still definitely going to pick it up, pretty great value as with most of Wargames Atlantic's stuff. 6 heavy weapons teams won't go amiss.

I used Bulldogs for my first infantry squad, and later on, their heads. WGA makes good stuff.

Go wild! Guard are one of the best forces for making Your Dudes since you can basically use any human figures in ~28mm scale and call it good. GW had a whole two-page spread of various Guard forces in the 3e codex (linked in spoiler), if you're looking for something weirder there's some great stuff to work from there.
Spoiler:

Also, you've already found WGA, but they're just the tip of the iceberg. If you feel like going more granular, you can check out Victoria Miniatures, Mad Robot Miniatures, or Anvil Industries - they all sell individual parts in case you want to mix'n'match to create something. There are other places that have a more limited selection of Guard stuff (Kromlech, Mortian, Puppetswar, Shieldwolf (under Sci-Fi), and Models and Minis (more for vehicles than infantry) all come to mind), and as mentioned you can always pull stuff from the fantasy/historical 28mm scene.

(Note: I say this as someone who doesn't worry too much about whether my army would be disallowed. Concerns there are definitely legitimate, but rules about whether third-party stuff is allowed seems to be down to store management, both for your FLGS and for regular GW shops - when in doubt, just ask)
(Also note: If you've got access to a 3D printer, some of the sites I listed will offer .STL downloads and there are other .STL-only offerings out there as well)

I put together a box of the Raumjager infantry a while back. I'm tempted by the les grognards as not-kriegsmen proxies

Just bear in mind, the WA are cheap and cheerful and perfectly reasonable- but the quality falls short of gw's models as they're not as 'crisp', the details are 'softer' and the poses/bits are more limited. Still, for what you get they're perfectly reasonable to buy and use. I'd never raise an issue if I saw them on the other side of the board

Yeah I have come across victoria and anvil, was considering using some anvil miniatures for veterans or special squads, just for my fluff. I have figured out a few replacements for vehicles and artillery, mostly using historical kits from various manufacturers. Unfortunately I don’t have a 3d printer, and don’t really have the budget or space for one at the moment.

I've mixed a number of the old VOID model line into my old Catachan force, and literally no one noticed. But that's back when old pewter models were the norm.

I am honestly considering picking up a box of Wargames Atlantic/Reptile Overlords Space Na'am figures to round out my command squad and get some special weapons. They look like they'd fit right in with the plastic Catachans.
