Nice to see some gunpla in the challenge, and brush-painted (I think?) at that. Are you able to paint the shoulder and hip joints? I tried once because I wanted to change the colour of the frame, but any movement and the friction stripped the paint down to the plastic.

Yep, it's all brush painted. The only spray can I used was GW's Wraithbone primer. The joints can be painted, but you'll usually have to sand them a little first, which is what I do.

Just a quick reminder that we have one week to go, and there will be no vote for next month, as we will go with the classic “Space Marine” theme.

Well, isn't that just bothersome. Real life keeps me from painting this week. I'll have to see what I can get done early next week. Completing all models should still be doable. At least I keep telling myself that...

Unexpectedly home with sick kids, so got to work. All done except for varnish. B&W teaser pic.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And we're done.

Raziel, savior, destroyer, soul reaver. Happy with the results. Always something I would change or approach differently, but I do like him. Sort of a pain to photograph, though.

Thanks for the encouragement MothSniper! I think that I will keep practicing cleaning them up. I'm still not happy with the grittiness of the finished models.
I would have loved to have kept working on them but I will be out of the country for the rest of the month and had to wrap it up quick!

My theme tying these two models together this month is 'out with the old' (two old minis from my graveyard) 'in with the new' techniques (i.e. cleaning up/altering models) best seen in my WIP post.
If this is too loose lmk and I will just submit one

Looking forward to seeing all of the submitted entries

Here's a quick WIP shot:

A week to go isn't very long considering how busy these models are, but I should hopefully be able to get them done to a reasonable standard. Working with the old Belial model is reinforcing how much I despise Finecrap though.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Been doing some worksings on the bikers again, still haven't gotten to the decals yet and have to say I am rather intimidated by it because of shaky hands and don't want to frustrate myself further this disasterous month.

Hope I will get to it still..

Then there is the pondering wether I will try to add more detail and damage/rust/dirt to the vehicles.. I kindof want to ..

I’ll have to fix the pictures when I get to a computer, they always come out upside down with my phone. I’m jumping in this month pretty late, but I’m excited. Of course, the mother in law is in town and we’re on a roadtrip to New Mexico, so no painting this weekend. I’ll have to hustle next week.

I’m doing a new model, a praetor from the HH box, but converting it into an older figure, a librarian in terminator armor. Plus, it’s for my older army. And, I’m trying out a new color scheme for my librarians. And, I took a bit from an old Skaven plague monk for the book. And, I’m trying out a new technique of printing my own water slide decals for the book text.

It fits the theme in several ways, I’d say.

A day or two after my first post, I repaired and added ranged weapons to my killa kans, With the kind of month it's been, I haven't gotten further than that or made the time to even photograph them. I'll try to slap some paint on them before the end of the month and pick the best five of the six.

And everything is wonderful for me again. I got in some unexpected painting time after all and the goal is no longer at risk. I'm just one headdress and a base away from completion.

Leopold: I just added decals to my entry; 2 out of 3 went on smoothly. The 3rd didn’t want to conform to the cylindrical surface and took a couple of tries (and I destroyed a couple of decals in the process). Oh, and I had to paint over the surface of one to make it blend in with my paint scheme because GW’s idea of “Deathskull blue” is a lot lighter than mine. In the end it was still worth doing.
I too am debating calling it good versus adding more weathering which I don’t normally do and am worried that it will screw up an otherwise perfect little vehicle.

I did the dirt and weathering, all beeps and boops are detail-phase-finished.
I meant more like making a freehand decal of a checkered pattern on the frontsides of the bikes x_x
I have done such before on other Lugganath units but have never really been confident whenever I tried because of the shaky hands.

I've done some painting on my fellow and this is the current status. Started off with the base layers of each color and a bit of sponging lighter green on the armor.
Next step was drybrushing the two OSL effects. Not quite sure if I like it or not.

Would still need to finish the lava base and the sword plus a few details, but I am seriously contemplating just scratching the OSL and going for a grimdark style insted.

Well, I think I am ready to submit my photos for this month. These are four of the new Crypt Guard models alongside the brand new Varghulf Courtier model. These were really fun units to tackle and I can’t wait to get to work on more of the FEC units for my growing force of deranged canni… I mean noble freedom fighters.

I have tried a new approach with the pictures following feedback last month and used a black card background with felt and slate acting as the terrain. I’m reasonably happy with the results but do feel some of the finer details are a little out of focus (as well as the highest highlighted areas on the Varghulf)

Still, I will try to improve on this method as time goes on. I think overall I’m content with the results. Hope you all agree.

Here they are!

I never really thought it was such a stand-out mini considering its strength when compared with other blight kings but I'm sure you'll make it pop.

Thanks for the blind faith in my ability to make it pop

I've not used it on the tabletop, I more just bought it because it was something different to what I would normally paint. Trying to get back on top of my technique after many years of not painting. Anyway, I've just about finished him, felt like I rushed the last few bits to get it done as the deadline was looming and real life has an annoying ability of getting in the way of my painitng.

So, I think I used a decent range of 'new' technical paints. I'm happier with the results of some rather than others and happier with some parts of the paint job than others, but hey ho, here's my ugly buggly Lord of Plagues...

Added a WiP pic too, kind of missed the boat at that point of painting

Yes, March is the start of the cycle, and always “Space Marine” Not required to be GW’s versions, but anything vaguely space-y and marine-y. Or part of the troubling Eldar protest we’ve been unable to purge.

There are 3 fixed months:
March (start) - Space Marine
October - Halloween special. (sometimes gets a more fancy name, but basically the same thing)
December - Open Round.

There will not be a vote for those months. The other time we will skip the vote is in case of ties. When that happens the organizer (me at the moment, was Paradigm before) will choose one to be the topic for the month, and the other one will be the subject for the next month that would have had a vote.

All rules subject to change on the whim of the mad dictator running this thing, but unlikely to do so.
