I prefer cogforts over giants as a imperial knight equivalent model that every army can take. Much easier to theme into your army.

Curious, I sort of feel the opposite. Cogforts are extremely complex constructions with a ravenous demand for power, that would require specialised skills and supplies simply to keep functioning. Even if you strongarm the crew, that solution will only last as long as the crew does. Then, when the crew dies to whatever horrors your army runs into, what does your Ogor band do?
Mega-Gargants are, fundamentally, just a Big Guy (or Big Lady, though the Big Ladies don't have miniature rep yet). They're naturally of a mercenary inclination and don't need maintenance beyond being convinced to stick around, and being fed, which you can do by having them eat your enemies if need be. Even if your army is a whole swarm of Nighthaunt ghosts, your Gargant could be a ghost himself (whereas the Nighthaunt don't tend to keep the engineering network necessary to keep complex machinery operational...)

That’s fair. I might be biased as an undead player. Crew dies? Just reanimate them and tell them to get back to work. Death is no excuse to stop. We will literally suck your soul out and bind it to that control panel. Any needed thinking can be done by the vampires who are lounging on the balcony having a nice goblet of “wine” while the battle unfolds…

I'd say lorewise Mega-Gargants make more sense as mercenaries to any army but miniature wise Cogforts work better as its way easier to kitbash it to fit your army

Part 1 of my Cities of Sigmar review covers the Cogfort and Gate Gargants with HQ sprue images and a list of all build options. I also filmed an unboxing for the Cogfort, inc. a walk-through the assembly guide so you can see all the options. There's so much you can do wit this kit, like swapping the legs to lean the Cogfort into various angles. As a contrast, the Gargants are just monopose models without any options (and lots of seam lines).

I dont see the cogfort being sidelined in a couple editions. They are big expensive kits that most people will not buy more than 1 of if they buy it at all, etc. Its harder to recover the cost invested in designing and producing the kit, therefore it makes sense that they would try to maximize the marketability of the kid by making it as broadly sellable as possible.
The reason they dont have to do the same with something like 40k Knights is because 40k has a much larger playerbase and between pure knights players and imperium players who want to ally one in they can sell plenty.

Honestly less than half of 40K's factions can't take a knight and that's basically just the Xenos. Even then Orks and Genestealer Cults have more than ample lore reasons to steal one and convert it up.
AoS also has a lot more interfaction relations. Order, Destruction and Death grand alliances even stand together regularly against Chaos and many settlements will have multiple factions sharing space. Orks, Ogors, Goblins and such can be found in Cities of Sigmar.

On a different note, judging from reviews the cogfort is one of the most customisable kits they've ever made. And the Dawners Triumph is the hidden gem of the release. Twenty parts to build it, about fifty optional coins, candles etc that can be used in any way.

I was hoping to use a unit of 20 Grenadiers but they look very Warcry like. So maybe you cannot reinforce them like the Wildercorps (up until now).

Is this normally just written next to the points cost of units?

The battle profiles (points) have been posted to WarCom. And as far as I'm aware, a unit can be reinforced unless the battle profile says it can't.

Uh I was not aware that this has been posted on warcom thank you! Automatically Appended Next Post: I feel like there is no infantry option (except maybe some of the legends) which are worth charging out of the conqueror Cogfort.
I had hoped the grenadiers could do it, but only 10 is really not so good.

I just learned that Gallants will get their bonus charging out of a Cogfort. Automatically Appended Next Post: With the appropriate buffs from +1D of the Cogfort and hitting on 2+ from all out attack they would put quite a number of wounds on units.
Save of the unit Damage
2+ 12.5
3+ 18.75
4+ 25
5+ 31.25
6+ 37.5
