Well, I was hype.

Them some arsebrain used utterly ahistorical music in the trailer.

Sorry Ahtman, but under the laws of the internet, I believe I’m meant to hold you personally responsible

But seriously. That does worry me as a production choice. I have to assume they’ve not done that in the movie. But I’m left with a nagging suspicion they have.

Denzel not even trying to put on a regional accent is my favorite. Get that paycheck!

There's a show or movie coming out on one of the infinite streaming services that seems to be about Rome and gladiators (with Anthony Hoplkins) and it looks more interesting than this, and isn't going to be held up to the standard that the first Gladiator set for this movie.

With that said, I'll probably check this out when it hits streaming.

Historical epics have been having a tough run lately at the box office, I wonder how this will fare.

Admittedly I'm no Rome-ologist but the line "What is the dream of Rome, if people are not free?" doesn't sound very Roman.

I didn't tell the trailer people to use Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild", don't you put that evil on me.

The music is certainly a choice...

I have a scientific interest in the movie. Ridley Scott hasn't exactly impressed with Prometheus and Covenant. Not in a good way at least. For this reason I want to see how this one compares to the original.

But under the rules and laws of the Internet, as the sharer of the link you did tell them not to use completely theme irrelevant musics, did you? 🤣🤣

My biggest concern here is that this is just a complete retread of the original. There’s nothing new in that trailer, so unless there’s some wild twist in the final version, what’s the point?

Plus side? We are, particular for Disney properties, in an age of non-spoiler to the point of polite disinformation trailers.

I get why some don’t like that, and indeed accept that view point, but I appreciate those naughty fibs as it helps maintain a mystery.

As long as Kanye and 50 Cent aren’t involved, it might be a halfway decent rap battle.

Aye. The only good angle here is that the Romans didn't discriminate who were slaves.

Dialogue seems pretty cringey, another classic case of sequilitis for a movie that no one asked for. Basically just going to wait for a Pitch Meeting or equivalent youtube video on this, it'll save time and provide more entertainment.

Well, it's time to admit the death of a much beloved director's career. Ridley Scott has officially gone crackers. This looks like a bunch of Member Berries ate the script of the original, and left this in the bowl.

There is an approximately zero percent chance that the music from the trailer is in the movie. Promos for the first one used Kid Rock. The actual score was all instrumental.

Napoleon used some sort of hip-hop in their trailer as well.

That movie ended up being pretty terrible. Coincidence? I think not.

I'll probably catch it on streaming.

But, to be fair, I don't go to movie theaters anymore because you people don't shower!

Also its overpriced and there's no movie I want to see so badly I'll overpay to see it.

I don't think anyone here believes that it is going to be in the movie.

It isn't my fault that they don't align releases with the 1st and the 15th of the month.

I don't think anyone here believes that it is going to be in the movie.

MDG professed being unsure about it.

And, to be fair, 'A Knight's Tale' happened.

Trailers using completely different music to the movie score is a fairly well established thing, and at times irritating thing, though. I remember being vaguely annoyed that Blur's 'Song 2' did not actually appear anywhere in the first Starship Troopers movie...

It's up there with a song being hyped as 'from' a particular blockbuster movie, and then it turns out it's just the end credits track.

I think to be fair, A Knight's Tale was purposefully tongue-in-cheek about a few things and was a lighthearted adventure tale. I think they can get away with slapping a non-epic orchestral score into a film in a way I don't think Gladiator can get away with it.

Especially since the first film has one hell of a score.

I did not get the impression he believed that it was in the film proper and just generally did not feel it fit the subject matter, even in a trailer. A Knight's Tale whole selling point was that it was anachronistic, whereas Gladiator was, and is not, similar at all in that regard.

Gladiator was definitely anachronistic.

But Gladiator was anachronistic in a pop culture sense because the popular image of Rome and the historical reality of Rome are not the same thing. Gladiator played to one more than the other.

A Knight's Tale on the other hand was purposefully anachronistic, in a fun way! So they get a pass for being a solid B-movie.

Sure, but that wasn't its selling point, which is specifically what I stated.
Ahtman wrote:A Knight's Tale whole selling point was that it was anachronistic, whereas Gladiator was, and is not

Since perhaps the phrasing was unclear I'll finish it: "...Gladiator was, and is not sold on its anachronism"

Maximus speaking English to a primarily English speaking audience is a different use of anachronism as opposed to having a bunch of people in medieval garb with modern haircuts dancing to Bowie's "Golden Years".

I guess I’m just burnt out on poor use of music in movies.

For instance, Zak The Hak using Zombie by the Cranberries in…a Zombie film. Utterly oblivious to the theme of the song which was the troubles in Ireland.

A Knights Tale is a very different kind of movie as it is a film based on a fictional story written in medival times and not a re-telling of actual history (though in the original story Ulrich does not get the woman)
the same way 300 is a re-telling of the ancient story and not the historic events

those movies work for what they are

having a fake regional accents for foreign languages is more of an issue and I am glad if they don't do it (as they would not have spoken with an accents and as no one really knows how ancient latin sounded like they cannot even use that as base, just use plain english or the original language with subs)

for GII, I saw a tweet what equippment was requested to be made for the historical advisors, so the trailer is already better than what I expected
