Subject: What villian is next for cinematic rehibilitation?
Ahtman wrote: Things were better when Venom was a villain and not an Anti-hero. We were a proper society, with proper values, and a proper buffet at Pizza Hut.
Venom has the problem of being a bully villain. He's just a big mean guy with a grudge that picks on the hero. That's initially cool... right up until the hero beats him in a fight (which he has to sooner or later) and he loses his threat factor. At worst, he'd just become a bully with a grude and at worst, an example of why some people just can't be left free. The original Ultimate run really suffered there with Hulk Norman just repeatedly showing up to beat up a child until he killed him. Definitely not the best version of the character.
Why do you want all villains to be heroes? Is it your hatred of quality pizza buffets?
How dare you assume I don't enjoy a quality (or even semi-quality) pizza buffet!
I don't want most villains to be heroes; I just recognize that villains whose only motivation is hating the hero for some slight, perceived or otherwise, can't carry that character for long before they just come across as a petty loser rather than something that remains an intimidating threat.

On the Surface of the Sun aka Florida in the Summer.
I'd like to see a period piece about British colonialism... where the British are the hero----what do you mean they've been portrayed as the heroes already?
Where?
England?
Ok, that seems to fit.

Villains were the best when we had red plastic cups and ashtrays at Pizza Hut.
John McClaine didn't try to rehabilitate Hans. He threw him out of a window and then went down kissed his wife while they were scraping him up.

I thought the modern era was one of tolerance and understanding.
At risk of dipping into politics, tolerating intolerance just leads to MORE intolerance, not less. Some things ARE evil, and should not be tolerated or made out to be less evil than they are.
I agree, but the trend seems to be that if X character didn't commit full on genocide they got a shot at redemption.

Dragon Ball is a children's story. The maturity level is literally lower than Animorphs. I don't think anything that goes in that setting is worth discussing seriously.

I haven't been inside a Pizza Hut.... since... uhhh... I remember going to one after seeing Stargate in theaters... whenever that was.
But, I would like to see a movie from the Klingons or Romulans point of view... no Starfleet (except mentioned off screen).
A non-Federation based Star Trek series is definitely something I’d like to see. I was disappointed after the first season of Picard that we didn’t get a Rangers of Fenris series; the idea of Seven of Nine leading a rag tag group of peacemakers in a lawless demilitarised zone just screams potential (and could help fill a very Firefly shaped hole in my heart…)

I recently finished reading Cypher and it made me think, which Warhammer AoS/30k/40k Villain would you like to read about from their point of view?
There’s a few of those in the Horus Heresy series; Alpharius/Omegon, Arhiman and even Sevatar all get some interesting development. Of course there’s the old argument that every 40K story is a villain story…

Oh, I'm sure it does. Something about him being mistreated and falling to evil.

Might’ve already happened in the Kung Fu Panda sequels, but for my money Tai Lung(voiced by Ian Mcshane) was a great villian with a strong sympathetic narrative. Abandoned as a child, raised by someone who put inmense pressure on him and made him believe his destiny was one very specific thing and never trained him to accept coming up short on that thing.
His fight with Shifu had some intense back and forth dialogue, and I always felt the animators did try to show a flash of remorse/regret in Tai Lung’s face when Shifu apologized for failing him, before his rage took over.

Apparently they're making Scar adopted rather than Mufasa's actual brother, so that changes a lot of the original dynamic from its Hamlet roots.
Well, we are bringing back the idea of our ruling class being genetically superior, so it makes sense the villain needs to be divorced from the bloodline.

Perhaps Jaffar knew the Sultan was driving the country to ruim through a combination of bankruptcy and upholding the caste system, and was trying to find ways to topple the system to save the citizens from the collapse of society due to the upper class' vanity. He just comes across as evil when the story is retold by the maintainers of the status quo.

I think it's about time to do a little retcon on reality and give the Emperor who loved horses a film
... that I wouldn't have to hide from my family and friends: Caligula!
