Hah. My two little (but ever growing) wins are the main reason I can't reduce hours
It would be nice to have an extra day to muck about with them, but university expenses are ever calling!
Also Covid has greatly assisted my ability to work from home, so the balance is pretty good just now.

Did you know that getting a spare key cut and installing a Keysafe is cheaper than having to call out a locksmith on a Saturday night, because you went out without your keys?

When I bought my house It was cheeper just to replace all the doorknob/locks then get a locksmith to re-key everything. Nothing against locksmiths, but I’d rather not pay their rates unless absolutely needed.
I also leave the inside door to the garage unlocked, and have an app on my phone that opens the garage door.
And my friend who lives 5 minutes away has one of my spares (for when he needs to stop over and take care of my cat). As does my son when he’s in town.

Meant to post that in the other thread.
Basically, I locked meself out. Went to get a chippy for my tea, and didn’t take keys with me.
£740 I won’t ever see again, but only myself to blame. But to future proof? I’ve taken steps to ensure A Key is available elsewhere.

Yeah, you can stop using stupid auto locking snibs and just remember to lock up after yourself
Surely that cheaper than setting up up a key safe.

Pain...ted? What does that mean?
In all seriousness. Florida's humidity finally dropped to the level which I can start priming models again!

Went to IKEA yesterday to buy cabinets I ended up web ordering.
Major upside? Got a new ergonomic foam pillow. I’ve had neck problems ever since I started commuting to work. See, I’d sleep on the coach, but was too tall for the seats. This meant rather than supporting my head? The headrests sat in the small of my neck. Overtime I got a real crick in it, which has never completely sorted itself.
But last nights sleep was divine. So much so I did not want to get out my pit this morning.

I need to get something similar to try to address my snoring. The boys have got nice IKEA pillows with a cooling gel side, which I'm rather jealous of. Will see what I can test-drive next time we pop in - we're conveniently close to the Southampton store so can more-or-less pop in. Must have been a bit of a trek for you Doc, looks like your closest ones are, well, not that close...

Not too bad, and my friend did the driving, as her car is massive.
Sadly we missed out on Daim Cake, so I still owe her for the driving. Automatically Appended Next Post: And seriously, if you’re also middle age or otherwise get neck pain? Defo look into ergonomic pillows.
My massive bonce is also really heavy, and tends to muller regular pillows. Which let’s face it most likely hasn’t helped the old Skellington.

Indeed. My friend was not amused!
But, I have just bought a Kitchenaid stand mixer, so hoping to find a Gluten Free Recipe and make her some.

Also? Getting a handy man in. Needed an Electrician to do the shed and interior wall lights - I am not mucking around with the Zappy Things. And as I’ve also a shelf needs putting up, and the dividing curtain, figured might as well get Handy Man, get it all done.
Not a bad price at £240+ VAT, and I’d likely be paying around that for the Sparky anyway.
Curtain rail arrived today, which is the bit I really want a pro in for. Curtain on its way. Otherwise all the bits and gubbins are present, awaiting a skilled pair of hands.
Once those are done? I think I’ll call it a Season.

One small thing that is a big quality of life thing, and is electrical work that can be done by someone with only basic skills, if new electric outlets.
I’ve replaced a number in my house with outlets that have a few USB ports in addition to the normal plugs. So I don’t need to deal with power bricks hanging off the wall and cluttering up things.
Obviously, make sure your breakers are off, take precautions, and use bits that fit with your local power requirements. If you are having a sparky come over anyway to play with the wires, might be worth having them pop a few into places you like to charge your phone, etc.
I’ve got one in my office, one by my recliner, and one in the kitchen. Things like my cat’s feeder and fountain both work on USB power, so it helped a lot to tidy up the place.

House has loads of power outlets. Not sure why, but I’m appreciating their presence. I do need the odd extension cord here and there, but nothing like I needed in the old flat.

Good-ish News!
Canada's mail is (kinda) working again! Instead of a complete strike, they are striking in shifts.
This means the Christmas gifts I ordered for my folks might actually get here before the holidays!

Better to have more and not need them. But it’s nice to have some modern ones sprinkled around with nice features.
The place my Ex was living when we met had the most wired kitchen I’ve ever seen. There was a 4x plug outlet for every 3 feet of counterspace, or close to it. Never an issue where you wanted to plug in the mixer/coffee pot/etc. might have been crazy overkill, but I appreciate it now. My current place has 3 2x outlets for all the counterspace, and not spaced well. If I ever have the kitchen redone, I’m going to splurge to wire the crap out of the place.

Yeah I've just had my kitchen redone and an extension at the back, both have plugs everywhere. Never know what you are going to need later on and really glad that we did. We even had a double socket above the top units for Christmas lights.

Snapped myself up 90 issues of white dwarfs that one of the local club members was getting rid of. They range from early 2000's to about 2012, so I've filled some major gaps in my own collection with this haul.
Not bad for zero dollars spent.
