I hate this conversation.
Calories in versus calories out works for most people. I don't personally like it, but it does work unless you have diabetes or other issues.
Processed foods are generally bad.
Artificial sweeteners are generally bad, but not as bad as the sugary alternatives.
Micronutrient-dense foods are generally better.
Juice is a scam.
Alcohol is really, really bad.
None of this is complicated. You can eat nothing but pizza and lose weight AND be healthier, depending on how you source the materials.

"Artificial sweeteners are generally bad, but not as bad as the sugary alternatives."
Unless you are allergic to 90% of them.
And then you have the poison known as High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Yeah, food allergies make things so much more complicated.

I used to get crippling migraines until I discovered an allergy to aspartame.

Lose weight, maybe. Be healthier? Only if your diet before was absolutely atrocious.
I agree with you that it isn't complicated. But healthy eating is made difficult for many by obfuscation by a multi billion pound/dollar industry trying to mask crap as healthy, fund publications of 'scientific' research that legitimises questionable claims about the food, and makes understanding it's ingredients near impossible. It also doesn't help that the ratio of fast food places to healthy food store is most areas is not exactly in favour of those trying to eat well.

Yup.
Less Cake, More Exercise is what it boils down to, sure.
But it wasn’t until I really looked at it that I realised just how damned easy it is to eat over your recommended daily calories.
A slice of White Bread for instance is easily 100 Calories. Couple of slices of toast for brekkie, round of Sandwiches for lunch? That’s not fancy eating. But depending on the sandwich filling can easily top 500 Calories.
Then there’s being truly aware of the snacks throughout the day, and learning proper portion control for your main meal.
If you don’t do that? Less Cake isn’t as easy as it sounds. Which means even gentle to moderate exercise isn’t going to have the impact you want.
Beer is a right sod, too. Very calorie dense! A single night in the pub can easily undo a week of hard work. Automatically Appended Next Post: I’ve also stopped taking sugar in my tea, which of course helps. Not the solution on its own, but has still had a palpable impact on my daily calorie intake.

Yeah I'm trying to stick to 1850 calories a day, and it's hard. Weight is slowly coming off though.

Well, despite the loaded question?
Empty Calories.
Pizzas aren’t generally noted for their veg. But they are noted for high levels of salt and saturated fat.
So one could scoff a Pizza and, depending on size of said Pizza, still only eat the recommended daily calories.
But, compared to say a small slice of pizza, a fresh salad and that? You’re not getting the same nutrition. And so you’re not getting a balanced diet, which means your body isn’t getting the vitamins and minerals is needs.
Therefore! Pizza isn’t the healthiest food you can get.
Amazing scran, yes. I don’t think anyone is pretending otherwise. But by no means especially healthy.
Do I win £5?

I was going to take the time to explain, what with having studied nutrition at university on my first undergrad degree, but given the tone of your reply and rudeness to others who tried, I'll just put you on the ignore list instead. Eat as much pizza as you can, it's clearly working for you if you get angry at strangers disagreeing with you on a discussion board...

Yup. It’s an easily hidden calorie.
I switched to Diet Coke many many years ago, as I do love my fizzy drinks. That’s definitely helped the waistline, and my teeth.
But it’s also added to various ready meals, and of course sweet snacks. So it can be easy to over indulge. I understand US food products tend to have considerably more than UK and European ones too.

The worst thing about cutting down on bread to aid calorie balancing is soup.
The weather is turning cold in the UK, despite it having been unseasonably warm recently. And this is when I’ll typically enjoy a hot bowl of soup for my lunch, with a couple of buttered, crusty rolls.
But…not when I’m cutting the calories, because those rolls are high!

I'm following the UKs banned food list:
No more...
• Mountain Dew canned and bottled drinks of many varieties
• Marinda
• Sunny D
• Swedish Fish
• Dubble Bubble
• Jolly Rancher gummies and hard candy
• Hot Tamales
• Twizzlers
• Lemonhead
For me ever again...
Even though I've never heard of Marinda.

Claiming that all forms of pizza are unhealthy (for everyone, at all times) is a truly unhinged opinion. Bye!

My Aunt has sent me three bottles of Chippy Sauce. If you’re also an Edinburgh lad, you’ll understand.
Still gonna be good, and only have a chippy tea once a week. And that will be my only non-home cooked dinner.
