Watch Stahly’s video from about 3:48 to see that kind of technical bit. The shade component of the quartet apparently Vallejo says can Be thinned with water but Stahly prefers medium, as they are effectively their xpress style paints.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'd really be interested in seeing additional uses of these shades/ contrasts they're releasing alongside these metals.
I'm looking for a proper replacement for my empty GW "Flesh Wash" from 2001 and so far have been unsuccessful in getting something as glossy and brown-reddish that I can throw on anything to make it extra gory. Some of these Shade colors sound/ look like they could be what I'm searching for.
I have literally just started my very first coat (one of the blues) but it is absolutely beautifully smooth, probably the nicest metallic I have used (directly over a black UC), and lovely coverage.
I used on a wet palette with a tiny (tiny) bit of water.
The review I've been waiting for as Vince loves his metallics...

These might have appeal for me for drybrushing. The closeup picts tell me these can still produce unsightly caking when used carelessly, so self-levelling, solvent based metallics are more OCD-proof, but acrylics dont require all that ventilation and masks, and are also a great base for solvent-based weathering to go over them
Ive been using the Obsidian Black metallic and light combo, and it is super lovely. Also after extended use, your water bowl looks like a science museum experiment in atmospheric dynamics. Super glittery and swirly

Pretty positive reviews then. Intrigued to give these a go, was thinking the Obsidian Black might be a good choice for painting a Psi-Titan.

For the people that already have them, are the shades really necessary or can I also use the shades/washes I already have (e.g. Nuln oil and Dark Tone) to darken it a bit without loosing the nice metallic effects?
Yes you can! Both Citadel Shade paints and Army Painter washes have a satin finish and thus work very well with metallics. TMM Shade paints are basically glossy Xpress Colors (so Contrast like paints), so I'd prefer to thin them anyways.
At about the 2-minute mark of this video, Juan used Xpress Medium to tone down the Ruby Red shade he was using, so if you're using something that's extremely matte it may affect the shine but as usual, YMMV.

These are easily some of the best metallics I have ever used. I would say the gold is probably my favourite (better than the Scale 75 and new Army Painter golds, which were my previous favourites). My gaming friends and I all agree about how good they are - one is even repainting his Blood Angels as Thousand Sons for an excuse to use them!
Here are some War Hounds I've painted using the new Ultramarine blue (3 layers: Base, shade, light) and Rusty Metal.
