Shame really. Their divergence into table top was rather quite good. Their Godzilla game as actually very good and had nice models.

I won’t miss them, but I also know I don’t get the moral high ground because I like nendoroids, which are basically the same but Japan and better faces and posible. I’m hoping funko folding will open space for nendoroids to take over, so even if it’s still chibi collectible toys, it’s better quality and more available than now.

One day I will have something funny enough to be in a signature.

Also dm me anime recommendations, I could use fun stuff to watch. I’ll add a mal sig eventually.

I do not like Funkos, but I do hope that they don't go under, if only for the potential cash-flow that they represent for the sort of indie game and video game stores that seem to rely on them for much income.

I just don't know that if Funko goes away the buyers would shift to something else.

Really though I doubt Funko's would disappear. Someone would buy the line. Probably Hasbro or somesuch.

I have a funko xenomorph on my desk. It amuses me. But I’m not a collector. They make small fun geek gifts.

I’d shed no tears if they went away, but would not rejoice. Not really my thing, but people enjoy them, and the world needs things that people enjoy.

When doing a survey of my extended family about what their favorite cake was for their birthday, a surprisingly large number responded with “pie”. For me it’s my family secret buttermilk chocolate cake.

My youngest, who had a few, concurs. She began getting rid of them about a year ago. Probably was not alone..

My daughter occasionally looks at Funko Pops at the store and asks why anyone would buy those.

I tell her Funkos are Part Of the Problem, and that I'm proud of her.

I've never understood how they weren't drowning in overstock from the beginning, unless they got an actual AI (not our current sad excuse) and used it to calculate the exact percentage of fans of Thing X who wanted to buy a weird little expressionless plastic statue of Thing X, for every fandom known to humankind, but fair play to them, there must be a lot of people who're happy to have their little statue of whatever obscure character's super important to them that nobody else was going to make a regular cheap plastic statue of. I wouldn't have a Laureline from City of a Thousand Planets otherwise, or She-Hulk in her silver dress from the awards ceremony in the second-last episode. I mean sure they take up a lot of space in EB Games or whatever, but they've got whole sections dedicated to junk I don't care for at all; at least in the Funko wall there's usually something or other I'm mildly fond of, even if I'm probably not going to buy it anyway.

I own precisely one Funko Pop, that being the Dark Angels Veteran. I kind of wish I'd gotten the rest of the Warhammer ones, but...eh. Funkos are not my jam but I would never put anyone down for owning them. One man's trash is another man's treasure, after all.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Yeah, this.

I don't own any, never had any interest in them... But they're just a little collectable toy. This is a forum for wargaming-which is playing with toys, in a lot of ways.

When I owned a bakery we had about 40+ flavors of just cake, then once you add fillings, coatings, etc. the varieties you could mix and match were unreal. Yet, it was still very common to make a three level wedding cake with two layers of Marble and the top tier with some special flavor for the head table. Marble cake is a scourge when you can literally have any flavor you want!

Also, Pies and Cake do not need to be in opposition. Some of my favorite weddings were ones that had a pie buffet as the dessert option. Delightful and looked so good all set up.

How many Funko Pops are edible? If none, someone get my agent on the phone! Stat!

Depends on how motivated you are.

I have the D&D Tiamat super size Funko. It isn't really super sized, just a bit bigger than the normal. Oh, and a gelatinous cube I use as a paper weight.

I'm surprised Funko lasted as long as it did. Never been a fan personally, the designs always felt cheap and samey. I'm sure it'll survive in some capacity but likely it'll be overtaken by the next fad of Labubus or the next collectible. I guess at least it's not creepy like Cabbage Patch Kids.

I think some people may have actually been hurt over Cabbage Patch Kids. Can the same be true of Funko Pops?

I reckon if you stuff one in a sock and swung it at someone’s bonce it’d hurt a reasonable amount?

Yup, the "Snack Time" doll had a mechanical mouth that could be fed plastic foods, which it would automatically "eat" with its mouth. Now imagine this simple battery powered system with no real built-in stop system (this was the mid 90s after all) getting hold of fingers or hair, in the case of the latter resulting in some painful haircuts as the doll would work its way up to the scalp.

Battlestar Galactica toys have the unfortunate pedigree of killing a kid. It’s also why the original Boba Fett figure was retooled to remove the launching rocket.

Reminded me I have an 8-bit Jason Vorhees Funko standing next to the TV for when I watch a horror movie., Those things, the 8-bit ones, are about 2-3 lbs/.9 - 1.3 kg of solid plastic and if swung in a sock would absolutely get the job done.
