The price is in line with the rumours, and overall if you are really looking for all of its contents its GW's best deal.
Still very expensive in context with the overall economy and things break apart fast if you dont collect those factions.

I'm hoping to snag a copy of the rulebook from someone buying boxes for Orks or Marines, as I don't play either for the forseeable future.

I really like the trailer, but too focused on the grim dark and human suffering... I need to do Salamanders this edition to make it less samey then.
Yeah, the info is here (though usually late), but the discussion doesn't really revolve around it.
I think with Armageddon GW wants to be a bit more grimdark than previous editions, probably to differentiate themselves from other newer miniature games like the StarCraft, Star Wars and Fallout.
Salamanders as focus would be a nice change though. I don't think it has been done yet, and it would be a nice change since salamanders are unique enough to no be boring.

The last edition was pretty grim; Leviathan was an open "we are freaking losing this war and Tryranids are eating all of us."
The one before that with Necrons was a "tiny" bit more positive, but in part because it was a new edition and big boost for Sisters of Battle coming in plastic so it was a big "Marine and Sister stand united against the hellish robot killing machines"

I don't think this box will be as much of a hit as previous editions were. Around ork communities most people are hoping for ebay for the two new models, while the marine community in general doesn't seem to be impressed with the box at all. Neither side is good value for anyone who has played for more than one edition.
There is no where near the hype around it as we have seen for Leviathan or Dark Imperium.
Either we might still be able to get discounted boxes when 12th hits, or I'm wrong and scalpers will just buy them all.
Personally, I'll just preorder the card decks and buy the models when they get their single releases.

Eh I can't judge the hype honestly - I'm not in this race as I'm not an ork nor Marine player. That said I do think the ork stuff looks utterly awesome so I'd expect that side to sell like made
Marine side is very classic and might have greater appeal for that; however for a launch set it does seem to lack the "flare" that previous sets have had for Marines.
So I know I'm not hyped up, but that's just cause its "nothing for me" whilst the last two editions got me into necrons and also had Tyranids that I already collect.

It might be a matter of perception, but to me the tyrannic felt more like Marines doing their super-human cool things( TM) while casually noting how terrible everything else was. After they did their super-cool thing( TM), they get stabbed by some badass monster.
Pariah Nexus was the Necron's doomsday clock plan, except they fumbled it because of hubris and poorly defended, giant obvious weak points. Cawl saves the day while doing Cawl things. Strong 90s cartoon villain vibes from both sides.
Nothing of consequence happened in Nachtmund Gauntlet. After the imperium loses the planet, they just blow it up. Of course, millions die, but you know none of them.
In Armageddon everything just turned lovecraftian. Fun, but not grimdark.
In 500 worlds an immovable object fights the immoveable object. No Ultramarine characters where harmed in the making of this campaign.
To me the 10th edition campaigns compare to the current Armageddon stuff like the Avengers Movie compares to Saving Private Ryan. One was entertainment with explosions, the other is about how terrible war can be.

GW poisoned Armageddon by themselves for me. I was about to get the Ork half, but now, given they have gone on record saying that all the Ork units will be getting bespoke multipart kits later? Hell nah. I'll just wait for the multiparts thanks.

It's a valid choice but for any newbies reading it's worth remembering that getting the multipart individual kits will work out more expensive than splitting this box.

I don't think they have explicitly said that have they?
They said that the Boyz will be able to take other weapons options, but I think that might be via a small additional sprue that isn't included here, which is exactly what happened with the Termigants last edition. And you might well only need one of those for multiple units (which, again, is exactly what happened to Termigants last edition).
We know we're getting a multipart Warboss, but I think that's it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Lathe Biosas wrote:Just a question, can we still use the old L-Shaped buildings in the new 40k game or will we need new building terrain for objectives?
You might need to place it on a cardboard base to set out where it takes effect now but L-shaped ruins are still valid. But the official tournament layout probably needs a few walls or barricades of some kind too.

For most marine players I think cherry picking either later multipart kits or one or two units from this set would be a better deal for them.
I think this box is quite safe for marines and invested a lot more work/time on the Ork revamp.
Previous editions had always something quite Themed for marines, Leviathan in my mind has been the "space hulk" in 40k with Loads of Nids and Terminators. Loved it. Dark imperium was Primaris.
This time around its just a nice box to collect, very safe and contained.

It also stands to reason that multipart sets will be fairly limited in posing, if the Warboss we've already seen is anything to go by. The differences might be reason enough to have one of each, especially the Banner Nob, who I doubt will get much in the way of options if any.

Hmm. I’ll want all the marine stuff. I’ve got 3 basic outriders built, with 3 more on sprue. Depending what new options they get, I might be able to bits box up my old ones.
Still noodling ideas around for what to do with the ork side of the box. If they are getting new trucks I might want to grab the old one before it’s gone so I can have different ones if I want more then one squad mounted up as truck boys.

I could see them going either way. The old ven dread kit was amazing, with a huge amount of options to customize its look. Plus gear options. If they make a version of that on the redemptor chassis, it would be awesome.
Or if they make a new version of the classic angry washing machine and keep the spirit of the old, that would also be cool.
I need a 3rd dread for my company so am good with either. As long as they keep the stubbers off of it. Those things are why the Brutalis is dead to me.

Hmmm, to me all those ork kits seem quite recent.but I have to admit, I’d rather they had another go at the boys and made them real multi-part this time, rather than keep this abomination that is the current Ork Boyz kit.
But new vehicles may be a decent thing, if they have a lot of options and resemble the Forge World models, rather than the war rig or the 6 bespoke buggies we got a few years ago (boggles my mind to this day). And I’m surprised we are not getting Grot Tanks or the Chinork Warkopta. Those would be cool.
And have tankbustas officially evolved into wrecka boyz now?
