Hello all,

Once more we are in the preliminary stages of setting up a third edition of Bac-Con, to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity in honour of Paul Sawyer.

Whilst a proper date is still being looked at, we are hoping to run it sometime early 2027, around February – March at the excellent Bristol Independent Gaming (BIG), who have been generous hosts to us in the past.

What to expect? As with the previous two events, this will be a light-hearted meet and play get-together where we play games and hold a raffle, all in the spirit of raising funds for a worthy cause, with a curiously delicious pig theme tying it all together.

From what I have gathered, it was primarily a Legion Imperialis and Epic Armageddon happening last time around, with a dash of Spearhead on the side, but if you would like to play or showcase a different game (Did I hear a Hail Caesar there?), more variety all the better, do sound off and let us know!

There was also mention of a painting contest in honour of the recently departed John Blanche, do share those thoughts as to what the theme (if any) would be and so on.

We welcome any and all input, thoughts, suggestions and ideas, let us know!

Feb March works for me, as I’m again off to Japan late April! Not that my diary is of any consequence.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On the painting side? I remember Mr Blanche predominantly for gorgeously hand painted banners, rather than models.

I mean, he did models too. But banner? Those are what stick most in my mind.

Paul Sawyer did do a lot of work for Warlord as well, so I would think their games could be on the table as well and still fit the theme.

Good call, he did do amazing freehand banners, but making them the focus of the contest would hamstring things considerably, wouldn't you agree? Wouldn't a more general Blanchitsu-style-themed contest be better? It would certainly be more open and accessible, though hehe, bonus pretzel for including an ace banner?

I think I’d definitely want to encourage kitbashes and conversions.

Maybe a specific category within a wider competition though? Not sure if the numbers would make it worthwhile though.
