Hi all,

Continuing my attempt at making an "air cav" (a la 7th air cav) army out of my guard, I came across the idea of grenediers in chimeras.  Here's why I'm thinking it's a good idea:

1.  No heavy weapon which means it's a mobile force

2.  Heavy weapons are provided by chimeras

3. Anti-tank can come from HQ support squads

4. Because they're storm troopers, I wouldn't need to take the mechanized doctrine which means that dropping suicide vets/special weapons can work.

Does this sound like a viable idea?  Or should I stick with the tried-and-true las/plas infantry squads?

cheers

i don't play guard yet , i think if your going to rely on the chimera for heavy weapons you might want to look into the special rules in imperial armor books for other weapon options , because sometimes the multi-laser just can't handle big armor or big monsters . also thats alot of bullet magnets for the enemy that can mean big coffins for your troops. thats just my opinion . bye the way i was in the air-cav they use attack helicopters to support armor units (ground-cav) at least the way they did it when i was in .

As long as you add sentinels /w lascannons to deal with heavy armor, its a workable list.

I've only recently begun playing guard, but some of my observations made in that time are as follows in regards to you list:

Definitley take suicide vets. minimum size, maximum Meltaguns. They're 70 point suicidal squads that have already popped half a dozen vehicles for me.

It might be worth it to take a small Infantry platoon (1PHQ and 2 Las/Plas). It couldn't hurt, and at 230 pts, it's a decent amount of firepower for the cost.
