Well, I've been seriously considering starting up an Eldar army ( I like the specialist slant of the army ), and here's what i've cooked up. Note, this is on Army Builder 3, and I have a suspicion that some of this may be incorrect: it's more of a rough outline.

I do plan to wait for the new codex (when is that, exactly?) and all the shiney new models (finally.)

All unit sizes include attached crew memebers (so 10-men is 8 parent members and 2 crew).

HQ

Farseer - 81
+Shuriken pistol, witchblade
=Fortune

ELITES

Striking Scorpions (9 men) - 191
+Exarch
++Stealth, scorpion claw

FIre Dragons (9-man) - 213
+Plasma grenades
++Exarch
++Firepike, tankhunter

TROOPS

Gaurdian Defenders (10 men) - 64
+Weapon Platform: Shuriken Cannon

Gaurdian Defenders (10 men) - 64
+Weapon Platform: Shuriken Cannon

Dire Avengers (8-man) - 128
+Exarch
++Power weapon, shuriken pistol, Distract

HEAVY SUPPORT

Wraithlord - 125
+Flamer x2, missile launcher

Fire Prism - 130
+Twin shuriken catapult, prism cannon
+Spirit Stones, vectored engines

TOTAL POINTS: 996

Watcha think? Plenty of core dudes to focus on anti-troops, and some fancy special units to take on tanks and tougher critters, and not too min-maxy i think.

However, given how fragile these guys tend to be, I might remove the Scoripions in favor of putting the Defenders up to 16-man plus crew squads...

Art for the Art God, minis for his throne!

Definately wait for the new codex, but for being built for the current one I will try.

Take 8 scorpions, even numbers are better.

If you use firedragons, they need a transport (ie. very expensive) otherwise they will be shot to pieces by AP 4 heavy weapons.

Your guardian squads, numbering 8 + the heavy weapon are more than your listed points. You didn't account for the cost of their heavy weapon.

Dire avengers are gernaly looked down upon ( I read this is to change in new codex however), they seem to be more expensive guardians.

The missile launcher is a poor choice for the wraithlord, I would use his BS4 to get yourself an accurate brightlance, or the staple starcannon. The missile launcher is worse than both of those. ;-p

The Fire Prism is the worst tank you could take because of new blast rules, this will probably also change in new codex, I want a deadly prism ( melta please)!

You may drop that scorpion and get the Farseer on a jetbike. You need to drop the Prism altogether, it will be your only vehicle and will receive a lot of fire and be surely destroyed ( not that prisms are at all dangerous)! Drop the dires for more guardians. Give the guardians starcannons.

Maybe add some vypers, they are mobile heavy weapons.

If you need more points for anything, get them from the Firedragons, they won't get into range before getting killed. Remember heavy bolters wound on 2+ and will ignore your armor!

Don't up the squads to 16 for the defenders, 8+2 squads would be fine, keep them smaller ( but not min) and get heavy weapons!

In the one game I played against a Fire Prism, it completely destroyed my Marines, granted it was helpful in part by my crappy roles (3 melta shots all 2 dice rolls, and never even glanced the thing). Personally though, I'd swap it out with a Falcon with Holofields. Give the Farseer guide, and put him into it.

I've learned that Fire Dragons equal failure as well. Everytime I take them, they end up being cannon fodder. If I want cannon fodder, I'll spend half the points on just as many guardians.

Give the Wraithlord a Bright Lance, that way you can knock down some of those Armor 14 guys. And definitely upgrade those gaurdian squads to Starcannons. Shuriken Cannons aren't bad, but why not take a same strength weapon that mow's marines and terminators down as well?

Don't waste the points on Dire Avenger Exarch powers. If your guys are getting into Close Combat, their dead. Dire Avengers are good for lying down an extreme amount of accurate fire. I always take at least 1 squad in my games, but they aren't really required. That would be a good unit to sacrifice to free up points.

I've found odd man squads to be helpful in regards for scoring units, but doesn't matter either way. Find some type of transport for the Scorpions. Their a good unit, but without that Fleet of Foot ability, it'll take them forever to get across the table, and any experienced opponent will make sure they absorb enough fire to not survive the trip.

Thats my advice. Hope it's helpful.

The Farseer looks good so long as you are planning on running him up to the scorpions.

Scorpions look good.

The fire dragons need work. Fire dragon exarch are mostly just a waste of points. They don't bring anything really useful to the squad and they are expensive. I say drop the exarch. You also need to either get a transport or stay on the shelf. Walking dragons are dead dragons and there is little else to be said about it.

You're guardian squads are of a good size but shuriken cannons are worthless. Do yourself a favor and get some decent heavy weapons. Star cannons are only like 10 or 15 points more, have 12 extra inches of range, and are ap 2. No reason to ever take a shuriken cannon in a guardian squad... ever.

The eldar missle launcher is a rather bad weapon. Sure its about the only eldar heavy weapon with a 48 inch range, but that doesn't make up for its short commings. Its not really good at takeing out tanks and its really not good at taking out troops. Go with a bright lance and you will live a happier life. That or a star cannon.

Under the current rules, the fire prisim is a really bad unit. 1 shot at bs 3. You only hit with it 3 times a game on average assuming you fire every turn. Its a small blast template which must be centered over a model so you are lucky (or your opponent is stupid) if you get more than 1 full and 1 partial per hit. All in all, a very lack luster choice. Trade it in for a falcon or use the points (and the model if you like) to give your fire dragons a wave serpent.
