*The Librarian is a bit expensive at ~181pts by himself.  I could drop his terminator honors and the iron halo if you think those points are better used somewhere else.
**The 4th tactical took frag grenades, even though they don't really want to charge, since they are better at rapidfire.  I couldn't find a better use for the points.
***I took one lascannon in this large squad in case I face enemies that use vehicles to stay out of range.  I could add a second lascannon to the list as further insurance, if needed.

I want this to be a solid list capable of tournament level play.  I don't ever expect to play in one, but I'd like this list to be my go-to army for days when I just want to WIN.

So, please take the time to comment, and be as brutal as necessary.

+++Edit to Add+++

What do you think about replacing the terminator command squad's "furious charge" with "tank hunters"?

Give the librarian terminator armor and a termie squad instead. It's cheaper AND better.

Don't waste your points on frag grenades.

No real reason to buy a lascannon on a tac squad that will get to shoot an average of like twice.

I don't like the mixed meltas/flamers.

Since you have Vet Sarges on all the squads, why settle for a Captain? Either upgrade him to a Master (if you're looking for Ld bonuses) or replace him with a Chaplain. I'd take the Chaplain, since Ld 9 is plenty good.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Hello there, Longshot.  Thanks for the reply.  I've read several of your posts on drop pod marines.

Librarian in terminator armor with a terminator command squad?  Yes, I've been thinking that myself.  Looks like that will be on my list for my next visit to GW.

No frags?  Hrm, ok.  I'll try the list without them.  In other games, frags help me a good bit, but I'm still learning with pods.

I picked the lascannon because it was the same price as a plasmagun, but it gives me a long-range shot if I needed it.  Since I've got the models, I can use plas-plas or plas-las at my option.

...

Lord Sutekh, you make a good point.  My captain is in the list for fluff reasons, not for competitive ones.  To get tough, I could replace him with a terminator-armored chaplain.  I'll get one to replace the captain now and then.

For a little extra anti-tank, why not give one of the Command Squads Tank Hunter instead of Furious Charge? My choice would be the Librarian's squad.

Personally, I'd have at least one "dedicated" squad, either 2 flamers or 2 meltas. As they are, most of their shooting will be wasted if they have to shoot a tank. Ideally, 1 2-melta squad, 1 2-flamers squad, and 1 "versatile" squad. Of course, your milage may vary.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I like that idea, Lord Sutekh.  I'll give Librarian D'Shyreth's squad some "tank hunter" skills.

I'm about to run some tests with mixed flamer/meltas.  If it doesn't work out, I'll still have enough models to return to x2 Melta, x2 Flamer, and a Melta/Flamer split.

I just keep having thoughts...

Rather than sticking yourself with a dropped squad with a lascannon, why not replace it with another Dread with TLLC? It can still be anti-tank, but it's mobile, can assault, and you might even give it a heavy flamer for close-in versatility. You may not want to give up the bodies, though.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Thanks for your steady feedback, Lord Suketh.  It's appreciated.  8)

...

"Bodies" is why I want to keep the 4th Tactical around.  All counted, my latest list has 50 terminators/marines/dreads, not counting pods.  My experience so far tells me I want as many marines as I can manage in a decent list.

I could experiment with the 3rd dreadnought, but I've now got $70 marked for a second terminator squad, terminator chaplain, and terminator librarian...

...but I might just proxy it for a bit to see what happens.
