ok i found this in the 2004 chapter approved under land raider section page 56

and it states i think for the first time that i have noticed you may fire at a seperate target
ill quote you the text

The land raider may always fire one additional weapon system if not moving over 6".This shot may be against a different target to that engaged by the crew and may only be used if the vehicle is eligible to fire a weapon....the rest is standard potms rules

so if what i read is actually what it says ive read it 5 times now you can shoot a seperate target than what the crew shoots at.. and it even spells out that the land raider may always fire one additonal weapon system.... and the crew is not a transported unit.. it is the the crew of the vehicle

now can one claim that you can fire what you are allowed to fire normally for having moved 6" then use your potms to fire an additional weapon system?.. in the absence of a negative.. it says what it says

i have never seen it spelled out like this.. but its not a trial set of rules either... the space marine codex doesnt have this add on

and of course gw isnt much help

what do you think?

That's the 3rd ed. version; no longer applicable. Use the current Land raider entry.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Agreed. The current SM codex was published after that article and the new Machine Spirit rules are therefore applicaple.

Also, the Wargear book (published even after the SM codex) supports this position as well.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!
