There is a rumor floating around my gaming group that Games Workshop has instituted a new policy for Games Day and Rogue Trader Tournaments- that armies are required to be composed of the most recently released sculpts.

I want to hear from people who have been to recent GW events, who may have brushed up against this policy.  Is this true?  Or is it another example of one of those anti-corporate urban myths, like a certain burger chain using ground worms rather than real beef?  Personally I cannot believe that GW would attempt to enforce such a short-sighted policy, unless the suits in charge really are profit-worshipping psychopaths with no understanding of the hobby.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Rumor. They'd never do it. Ever. Rumor. Nothing more.

EDIT: This thread can be locked now.  It will just serve as flame bait.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

That was a rumor that circulates every now and again (I heard it back in 1999). Someone (usually a fragged off gamer) always has a FOAF (that's friend of a friend to you, chummer) who claims that their rogue-trader era all metal ork speed freak army was rejected at a RTT or something. Doesn't happen.

As to BigChris' warning: Lost? Have you considered devoting yourself to Chinesus?

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Your preaching is cryptic, Rabbi. Am I lost? Don't get me wrong--I love to OT a thread into the dirt. But I'd rather whack a pointless one than enter into a flame war.

But, if I must prove myself to Chinesus, allow me to present this offering of of a pig being prepared by some islanders.

Your attempt to placate Chinesus with pork is noble, my large friend, but sadly, misguided.  Pretend to be a pig in order to eat the tiger

It is as Chinesus said in his sermon to the peasant army of Lord Cao Gho Mu before the battle of  Ten Thousand Sorrows:

My Brothers, look upon the humble pig wallowing there in the mud, he hasn't a care in the world.  He doesn't fight pointless wars for land or coins or women, he is content to roll in the dirt and root in his own waste.  I say, be like the pig.  Pride is for the Ministers and their thralls.  Running away isn't cowardly, feel good that you are taking a stand for once in your life!  Scratch when you itch!  Break wind when the feeling comes!  And bring me more of this wonderful wine!

Chinesus was gone when the dawn broke, as was most of the army.  The battle was lost before it began, and Lord Mu's lands and titles were forfeit.  Chinesus reportedly took no payment.

Tell us more, o prophet of Chinesus!

Long may our eye sockets be massaged, joyous shall be our suffering!

But can the Qin savior conquer the Ninjas?

I cannot follow a short-duration-personal-savior who is unable to defeat ninjas in immoral combat.

On topic though, GW would never ever do this. It would be cutting their own throat even more than they already do. Even GW isnt this stupid. Imagine the rage from people who have spent quite a bit of time and money to convert an army using a myriad of different bits, from differing eras of GW games. The out cry would be so great, no one would never attend another GW sanctioned tourney again, not to mention being a major detterent in buying newer models for both the grognards and the newbs.

There will be no "TYPE 2" rule to ever be set in place. It simply cannot happen.

As long as the majority of parts are from citadel miniatures, GW can never have a foothold to complain. Especially not with the prices they try to charge.

All this talk about pigs is making me hungry. There's only one way that a pig should look, and it's something like this...
