This seems like a product that should have been included in the base set when you buy it (much like the special order dice in BFG) but I think they are rather nice.

40K vehicle damage dice

They not only represent in an abstract way what result is being represented, but numerically as well. I am not sure of which is penetrating or which is glancing, but there are two colors I assume represent one or the other.

I have similiar dice from "Evil Minions" and I have always wondered how long it would take for GW to wise-up and make dice like these. It is good news and about time.

I must say, that is pretty cool. Do you need 'em? No, but they are still cool.

Those are awesome - are they going to be another $10.00 ripoff like the other 40k dice set?

I am sure they will be $10. But seeing as I already spent $10 each on 3 sets of Evil Minions damage dice, I am not bothered.

can anyone link to evil minons dice?

Sure. Though for the money, the GW dice are actually the better deal, as the dice are etched as opposed to printed.

I was thinking about custom dice from chessex, but that gets prohibitivly expensive when doing all 6 sides...

My question is... Why dice when either custom markers, damage chits and varying smoke pufts can do the same thing for cheaper while looking better than putting one or more dice on the vehicle? GF9 makes counter sets, and I'm sure there are generic counters out there on the web one can print off, glue to card and cut up. Heck, I still have my v2 counters.

I'll get 'em, just because I think they're nifty.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I don't think these are for marking what damage has occured to a vehicle, although they could be used for that.  These are to to steramline the damage process.  Roll one dice, don't have to consult charts, etc.

I use the evil minion dice too. Is the exploding one supposed to have a die and scatter die on it?

Wait, some are white, some black, and some grey? What does that mean?

They needed to meet the quota. You know, to prevent lawsuits.

Dice are smaller and easier to carry around. Personal preference, really. I really dislike putting "model counters" (i.e. anything made as a model) on the battlefield when cleaner dice are available. I also happen to use the GF9 markers for fantasy but I'd prefer if those were on dice form too.

I think the idea is you roll the dice, and the dice tell you the result (without having to look up a table) and then also doubles as a marker for the effect.

Example:  My las got a glancing hit.  I pick up the black glancing die and roll it. A crew shaken symbol, which i put next to your battle wagon to show the effect until it wears off.

Pretty cool.  If you've already got the GF9 counters, or other tools, then yer all set of course.

I'd probably pick them up for $5, but not likely for $10. Of course, my little brother just got a job at the FLGS, so 70% of $10 might be workable ...

And at the cost of 16 tokens for $20 the GF9 aren't quite as useful IMO. Having the dual purpose of rolling and marking makes them more wortwile.I can buy two sets of dice for that price if they are $10 apiece and get more use from them.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Yeah I gotta agree, the dice are better than tokens.

I can't wait to buy these new GW ones.

Theyre not a neccessity, but then again, neither is any of 40K.

For what they are, you really cant beat the deal. You get dice that represent glancing penetrating and ordnance. You roll them and to decide the outcome, then use tham as markers. Supposedly, you get 12 of these dice for $8 USD. (2 Ordnance dice, 4 penetrating dice, 6 glancing dice)

Every other place I have checked, the markers arent quite as good (evil minions are printed as opposed to eetched) or take up more real estate on the table because of their size, and cost more too.

Of all people, I hate to be the one to slap GW on the back and tell them "Job well done!" but in this case, I have to give credit where credit is due.

I'll buy them for sure, as I can never remember the tables, and I want to see the mushroom cloud when I destroy a tank!

If they're $10 for 9, like their regular dice sets (8 & a scatter) -- or an even better price, I'll pick 'em up.
It is because it IS far easier than looking up (or memorizing) the charts... I just hope (a) it's obvious or (b) thy tell you which image means which.
Some will be obvious but... just to be certain.
