Well, got my first game with BFG in last night.  2000pts Planetary Assualt.  Imperial vs Eldar, Imperial was defending.

Now, I was pretty worried that I was gonna get completely tanked, simply because of how fast Eldar are, and it was my first game, but starting out I had a bit of luck on my side.  He was moving into the Sun, and I got first turn.  My fleet consisted of...

Emperor Class Battleship
2 Overlord Battlecruiers (Squadron 1)
2 Dominator Cruisers (Squadron 2)
1 Gothic, and 1 Dictator Cruiser (Squadron 3)
5 Firestorm Frigates (Squadron 4)
3 Sword Frigates (Squadron 5)

His composition was 3 Cruisers, and and about 15-20 Escorts.

Like I said, I had several things in my favor.  1, he was going into the Sun, so they were slow as hell advancing on the planet.  2, I got first turn, and because he placed my Battleship, and Overlords right up front (hoping he got first turn), I was able to destroy 1/3rd of his scoring ability turn 1.  I did suprisingly well on guessing the range of my Nova Cannons.  I only completely missed once in about 7 turns.

In the end, the battle was ungodly bloody.  It came down to me having 1 Firestorm Frigate, and the 2 Dominator Cruiers, one with just 1 damage point left.  He had just 1 Escort left and conceded the battle.  We both made several mistakes throughout the game, since we're both pretty new to it.  Such as when I was rolling for Crits, we didn't realize, that with Eldar you rolled for a 4, not 6.  Which is funny because about 90% of Crit rolls where always hitting 5's.  That alone would have left much more of my fleet on the table.

So for my first game, i've gotta say that it was awesome.  Glad I put the money into this.

Doesn't the game just freaking rock? I'm just sad that more people don't play near where I live...

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I'm hooked. We're starting a BFG Campaign and I'm going to look to see if there is some way we can tie it into a 40K campaign as well.

There is nothing like a fine game with multi-mega ton space ships blasting each other with multi-giga ton level fire power. Gothic is a great game.
