I like 1500 point games or even 1000 points, but I've played a fair amount of events where 1850 and 2000 are the norm. What say you, gentle player?

I generally play 1850. Tournaments here have gone to 2000 points though.

I like 1000 to 1200. It works well for my Guardsmen, but I prefer 1500 for Templars. I rarely have the time to sit down and play more than 2000 points, but my 2500 point list in the Army List section is my way of committing to larger, more exciting games.

I'm also a huge fan of Combat Patrol with 400 points. I play a ton of those.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Mostly 1500pts. Most people around here can hardly field that, but I'd like to go higher.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I like 2,000 point games. It is still a managible size, yet allows you to take some goodies that you would normally not take in smaller games, like a monolith or land raider.

The local store plays games between 500 points and 2000 points. Pretty much all of the regular gamers could field 5000 points of their favored army if they wanted to.

for all the years i have been laying we always go for 1850 because that is the tournament sized list. i only have 1 army that can go over that (DW)  as i buy my models after i make the list. so i only buy what i need.

1500 lately, just to get in a relatively quick game. I do find that 1700-1850 are nice point sizes which give the army a little more depth and allow you to field more interesting units and builds. Those have been the majority of my games over the last few years.

1700-1850 here too. Just becuse its the most common size for the tournies here.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

When I did play, it was usually between 500 and 1000 points.  If I still played, my ideal game size would probably be 1500.

my last gAME WAS 3000PTS, WHERE I PLAYED A ba AND ORK COMBINED 3000 PTS AGAINST MY 3000PTS OF nURGLE, i LOST but only cos i used every thing I had to make that 3000pts so alot was crap stuff.

The BIggest game i played was my 5000pts of SW against a guys ultramarine and BT 5000pts at a GW store.

I prefer Combat Patrol-1500 point games, but will play 1850-2000 if that is what's desired. I find 1000-1500 to be the 'sweet spot' in terms of army size, speed of game, being able to take some options while still trying to optimize the list...

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

1000 point games was what I rocked in both 40k and Fantasy for a while, because it was a smaller army size that was buyable/buildable/paintable, and the games didn't take too long. Now I've been playing lots of 1500 point 40k games as more Chaos gets painted, and because they're more interesting. For Fantasy I'm itching to get my Ogres or Dwarfs to 2000, as that's where Fantasy really gets exciting, but no time to build or paint that far as of yet.

2000, its what is ingrained in my mind from 2nd ed on up. I like fielding lots of troops and i find that it is just about the perfect sized game for my taste. Although 1000 points cna be a lot of fun too.

Somewhere within 1200 to 1850. RTT's here were set at 1850 as I recall, so we tend to go that route with our small gaming group.

When I have some more marines painted up, I could go larger than 1850 for outside-gaming-group play...

2000 Points is the norm where I'm at (40K-wise).

350 is good for a super-quick game, but 500 really lets you play more units and has been the standard for tournies lately.

Haven't played 1000 pts yet, but that's a fairly massive game anyway. Shoot, I can't even field that may points yet without proxies.

1000 points can be abused pretty easily, but if you're good friends with your opponents and don't mind them handling your minis it's my favoite point level. At that small, a game's probably only taking an hour and you can switch armies to try a different scenario after you finish the first.

The problem is when you get some yahoo friend of yours bringing three defilers and a daemon prince at 1K.

1000pts. "a fairly massive game"? That's funny... I consider it the lowest point at which the game is really playable.

I think blue loki was think about Warmachine/hordes not 40K. In Warmachine/Hordes 1000 point is MASSIVE. It's a big enough game that even though I could field 1000 points I choose not too. I like my Warmachine fast and furious. Wraggling two casters really slows down the game IMHO. But back on topic, I'm running a Lunch hammer league at my work and We are playing 600 points. It's a pretty good game for about an hour.

Other wise I find that 1500 is my favorite size. 1850 and 2000 let you take all the toys you want, but 1500 makes you really think about what you take. That Land Raider is a big deal, but is it worth it at 1500? what about that 300+ point assault squad? I like having to think about my lists.

That's whatcha get for not specifying which game you're talking about!

1850 for 40k is what we normally play 'round these parts. But I've noticed an increased desire by many to bump that up to 2k.

'course, that was all 4 months ago when I pretty much dropped 40k in favor of Hordes almost exculsively, so things might've changed...
