I have an upcoming tournament at my local club where I'm going to paly a fellow cluber's Lizardmen. It will be my first game ever with the lizzies. I have looked through the armybook some, but I have no real strategy. I have made a list out of the models made available to me. Please tear it to pieces and suggest changes you find appropriate. This is supposed to be a friendly torunament and we usen Army Composition to determine whether a list is fair or not, so I neither can nor want to field a overkilly list of enormous massacre.

The list:

CHARACTERS:

-Slann Mage-Priest:  350 pts
General, BSB, 5th Generation.

- Saurus Scar-Veteran:  134 pts
Sword of The Hornet, Light Armor, Shield, Blessed Spawning of Sotek

- Skink Priest: 150 pts
Level 2, 2* Dispel Scroll

TOTAL: 634p

CORE:

-16 Temple Guard:  323 pts
Full Command, Halberd, Shield

- 10 Saurus Warriors:  120 pts
HW, Shield

- 12 Skink Skirmishers: 72 pts

- 3 Jungle Swarm: 150 pts

SPECIAL:

- 5 Saurus Cavalry: 225 pts
Full Command, HW, Spears, Shields

- 6 Chameleon Skinks: 90 pts
Blowpipes

RARE:

- 1 Stegadon: 235 pts

- 15 Saurus Warriors: 270 pts
Full Command, HW, Shield, Blessed Spawning of Sotek, Blessed Spawning of Tepok

TOTAL: 2149 pts
Models: 76
Power Dices: 8
Dispel Dices: 6

My first thought when looking at this list is that I am low on models. I have two blocks of solid infantry, but the rest ahs to work together with other united in order to be able to perform well. Using the Slann as both General and BSB is perhaps not that good seeing as I'm putting all my eggs in one basket. If the Slann and the Temple Guards should run away, I'll probably lose bad, since they are a real point sink. But, how often does Cold-blooded, reorollable Ld9 fail you? Hopefully never... I also hope to be able to use the skinks to both pepper the enemy with blowpipes, and also to shield my main infrantry blocks. Perhaps take out the odd war machine crew and wizard. The two main blocks will either charge in, or absorb a charge (preferably the Temple Guard), and then get assistance from the Cavalry, Stegadon and the smaller Saurus block. The Swarm I'll use as a speedbump, keeping some weak infantry at bay, or perhaps flanking, with it's high movement. That should see to break most enemies. I hope.
Might also be good to add that my main army is High Elves, so some of the inspiration comes from what I ahve experienced with them.

I have some more models available, so my changes are limited to these:

Characters:

2 Ckink Chiefs (unpainted)
1 Saurus BSB (unpainted)
1 Saurus on Cold One (painted)

Core:

12 Skink Skirmishers w. blowpipes (painted)
4  Temple Guards                               (painted)
5 Saurus Warriors w HW+ Shield   (unpainted)
12 Skinks w. javelins                         (painted)

Special:

12 Kroxigors     (6 painted, 6 unpainted)
3 Saurus Cavalry (unpainted)
5 Terradons         (painted)

Rare:

3 Salamander hunting packs ( 2 painted, 1 unpainted)

Now, this was a very long post, but I would appreciate any coments and critique very much.

Thanks!

Im just going to post an alternate list with some comments :

Slann 2nd Gen. 585pts
BSB, 2xdispel scroll, (5+ Ward to unit item/or 2+ Ward to Slann item)

Scar-Veteran 134pts
Hornet sword, ligth armour,Enchanted shield, Mark of Quetzl

15 Temple Guard 305pts
Full Command, Shields

10 Skink Skirmishers 60pts
10 Skink Skirmishers 60pts
10 Scouting Skink Skirmishers 70pts
10 Scouting Skink Skirmishers 70pts

3 Terradons 105pts

3 Kroxigors 174pts
3 Kroxigors 174pts
3 Kroxigors 174pts

I hope theres no cries of cheese from taking a 2nd gen slann, he can do wonders but costs alot.
Im not sure which item to choose, giving him or his unit extra protection.

The plan here is to use the Slann+Scar-Veteran+Temple Guard as a solid anvil unit with most of the other units acting as support.

You can manage 40 skinks if you sub some of the chameleon ones for regular skinks.

The 3x3 Kroxigors looks boring, and you could easily switch one for a min unit of saurus cavalry for the same cost.

I should also add that Im no expert player, so take this advice with your measurement of salt.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

Thanks for your reply, Banesword!

Your list would probably beat most of the guys at my club, but as far as Army Composition goes, I don't think it stands a chance, as it maxes out on some of the things that are punished by that. The way it works is that you calculate a number and are given bonuses by adding "friendly" stuff, and punished by taking many powerful things. I also don't have axcess to 40 skink models, and the list as a whole might bear likeness to a certain yellow dairy product. Nothing bad intended, and hopefully not taken.

Now, there are some things that I've been thinking on:

Should i take some points here and there, take out the 10-man Saurus unit and get some Kroxigors instead? It would give the army some well-needed power, and they have quite the good probability of reaching the enemy when shielded by skinks.

Should I instead get some more skinks? The Kroxigors would be 174 points, according to Armybuilder, and the skinks are only 72 points for a unit of 12. Then I could take the other 100 points and pimp up the Slann.

I dont get out of the closet to play very much, so thats why the uber list of doom popped out.

Skinks are cheap core troops, taking 3-4 units is a given.

The rare saurus unit at least must go. If you want saurus, I advocate many units of 10 with maybe a musician and using something called "MSU" tactics.

It involves multiple units, were paying for ranks is lesse efficient then buying another units for more attacks. The issue then becomes how to make multiple 10 man saurus units charge one enemy.

If your not going to use a 2nd gen Slann, I dont see the point of using him as a lower gen hes much similar to any lvl 4 wizard.

Just for the record.... I hate it when people use army composition to determine wether a list is fair...... personaly I use fluff to see if the list is fair.

As for your list, you realise 10 saurus warriors are just going to get rolled over? small units are not smart units. Take the 120 points from that unit and add it to the rare saurus squad

I can see how you say that, and personally I have yet to participate in a tournament with Army Composition. However, I was thinking of doing as you said on the Saurus unit, and also take away the Jungle Sawrm and add more Saurus Cavalry, since I have heard Swarms aren't used that much now, since they got nerfed.

Remember, you can't do both, you need three core units atleast

And I find people who use "Army Composition" use it as a crutch so that they do not need to learn the fluff of the game..... which is sad really, as knowing the background makes playing that much better.

Ah,yes, you're right. Well, then I can take away the 10-man Saurus unit, add more to the Rare Saurus unit, and get some more skinks. Perhaps I'll get another unit of 12, or make two units of 10 if I can't afford it.

Well, as for using AC, the players at my club are mostly very good players. Some are even among the best in Sweden. However, it's easy to chese out lists and make games less fun. I have yet to see how it affects gameplay. As for fluff, most of them are very knowledgable on their respective fluff.

Thanks for your help!
