i once say a square sort of carry case that was made of material with foam inside,  I want to know if anybody can help and point me in a cheaper direction then GW's carry cases.

While on the subject does anybody know an online shop that sell decal for model fighter jets in 1/48 scale as all i get are the usual USAF ones.  I want some other lesser known countries or the really cool ones with Felix the cat holding a bomb or the ones with skulls and crossbones.

any help would be great.

I use plastic toolboxes, with foam bedding...

I've been using that since before GW came out with the model cases, and it's served me well. MUCH cheaper to.

I use Plano tackleboxes with foam from the Container store, in addition to a couple GW cases.

Also, for some of my TMCs, I bought some painters brush boxes from Artbox - tall, wide cases that are easily lined with foam and hold my winged tyrant and Gunfexes rather nicely.

gun case cost less than GW cases, you just need to find one that fit the foam you need

You pay all that money for models and want to scrimp on storage? I've seen a GW case driven over by a Hummer and though a few figures were broken from the pressure, It was nothing that couldn't be fixed with glue.

I've seen other brands of carrying cases...they don't have the durability of GW cases. Buy some extra foam and one case, or better yet, get the bigger case and you'll save alot of time and effort.

There used to be another company that made GW style cases. I have one, it was nice, it held more models. I saw it on a website about a year ago but can't remember the name.

Or you can try and save some bucks, and end up with ruined models. Would you buy a brand new car and be chintzy on the insurance and not get collision protection? No, you wouldn't. So save up, buy a case.

I get these from Wal-mart.  At the time they were 7 bucks, probably 10 by now, but still much better than 40 from GW.  Just as tough, these cases have been through a lot.  Its a two pistol case.

@ Green Angel. I already have 3 GW case for my SW, 2 for my BA, 2 for my nurgle, 2 for my world eaters, 1 large case more for my Ba and one large case for my ultramarines. Not to mention 2 very large storage boxes for my tanks. So when it comes to srimping your talking to the wrong guy. I need something that will hold more mini as I still have loads unboxed and they are taking up space. Yes Gw case are good but they are way over priced for what they are, the Walmart gun case at $7-10 looks a great bargain. However no walmarts here in the UK as yet.

Also i have seen GW cases droppes and cracked, they are not thats tough.

Those Walmart cases are Plano 4 pistol cases 1404-02. I have 5 from Walmart, but Walmart seems to have stopped carrying them since they are "pistol" cases (Thanks Rosie)

Still available elsewhere though:

Jaydwn you beat me to the punch ya bum.  These cases are cheap, strong, and have the added benefit of not being restrcircted t size-you can throw in any sized mini and are exspecially nice if you have larger minis (cavalry, orges etc.).  Plus they just look like boxes, don't have dorky items on them.

Down side don't leave them in the open in your car (or the GW ones for that matter).  Thieves may think they have something expensive in them.

Beef thats just a particular case type.  You can find similar cases in sporting good shops, department stores, gun stores, etc.  They are sold as pistol case (and rifle cases for you UK types)  but also in other sections of stores as generic cases (including camera cases).  I have Sabol boxes, GW boxes, home made boxes and three pistol boxes (ok ne i fact has poistols in it, but thats only for rules arguments).  For a quick grab and go they can't be topped.

Go with the pistol cases. I have around 5 or 6 of them. Cheap and they work great. If you mess up the foam you can just buy another case.

To answer your first question, I am like alot of people I think and started with GW cases and then just got sick of them. i have the old red foam ones which have never made me happy. I had to keep regluing the foam togther all the time, such a pain. Now Im using a huge tool box and slowly filling it with customizable foam. paid about 20 bucks for the case and used the old red foam of my GW case as padding a filler...hey I found a use for it after all

YOur other question got me thinking too.   The old felix the cat with a bomb symbol,  I think is a WWII American dive bomber wing insignia  from the pacific theater.  Its specific to a certain aircraft carrier but I cant think of it at the moment.  I know an old Dive bomber model I built as a kid had one of those. As for  finding  interesting  ones ebay is one way to go, any hardcore model store always has something kicking around. I have seen online and at model stores where you can buy the decal transfer sheets blank and then you can add your own symbols. I think a laser home printer lets you mass produce them,

Hope that helps

@ Smoke3 i like the tranfer idea. I will have to look into that as i was not aware of it.

As for the pistol cases I looked on ebay and found some pistol cases for under £8. Not bad But do they just have 2 sets of foam in them so you only get one layer of models in them or are like the picture Jayden63 has posted where you can put someything under them.

Personally, I have three toolboxes from Walmart.  They were about 10 bucks each.  I fill them with foam from craft stores.  I cut the shapes out of the foam myself, and the miniatures fit perfectly.  I then use foam-core board in between the foam layers, but this is optional.  The foam and foam-core board is all hella cheap too.  You can have a really nice case for about $15 bucks.  And I don't care what you say about the "durability" of GW cases, it can't touch the durability of one of these $10 toolboxes.

I haven't tried it myself, but the pistol cases look really convienient as well.

Honestly, there's no good reason to drop $50 on one of the GW cases.

The UK does have walmart. It is called ASDA.

There is a version of wal-mart in the UK it is ASDA as Skkiper noted but finding hand gun cases might be kinda hard...am I wrong or are handguns still illeagal in the UK? I know we Yanks see them in every british movie these days but the average English ASDA shopping citizen is not gonna have access to the personal fire power the average American Wal-mart shopper does. I'd go with tool boxes....

They might also be in the tool box section or other areas. We think of them as pistol cases but I have seen them in other sections as well.

BEEF The one Jayden is showing has two levels.

I use a case like Jayden's for my Warmachine (too many fiddly angles), a GW case for my Eldar (They all fit!), and an Armytransport for everything else (orks, WH, Marines, etc.)

The pistol case cost me less than $10; I've gotten similar rifle case for just as cheap; not as easy to maneuver in the close confines of a gaming store, but effective.

My old army transport case lasted a year before it fell apart. I have GW and non GW figure cases that are almost 10 years old. Don't waste your time with those, they don't stand up to wear and tear.

GW cases are nice only if you are using the infantry models. Vehicals, cavalry and warmachine models arent that good for them.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

My Army Transports are fine. The older one does have a tear where the strap
attaches to the bag, but later I found out that they offered refunds for those
bags.

The GW cases are probably fine for GW figures. But for things like Warmachine
and larger objects you want the more customizable Armytransport or something
similar where they have ready-made trays available.

I've had three army transports: the oldest one died after about 5 years of use. The other two are fine.

There are now GW cases for vehicles etc. They also have a larger case for a full army. More expensive, but it gives you the security of a hard case.

Still, if you're satisfied with eggcrate foam (and for funky minis I certainly am), a pistol case will serve you just fine.
