I'm currently thinking of starting a Dark Eldar army and I'm wondering if this is "the right time" so to speak. As far as I know the latest DE codex is from 2:nd Edition, IE i't pretty friggin old. Is there any rumours on a new codex comming in the forseeable future? Are the DE included in the new Eldar codex (I know the Harlequins are...) or will they have to wait for their own?

I've read the rules for the new Harlequins, and they function pretty much the same as wyches I guess, but I really don't want to jump on the new Eldar hype.

And what about the models? Are there any new ones coming soon, or can I go ahead and buy the ones that are out already? I'm probably gonna do a webway army with warriors, wyches and raiders and gamewise I think they'll work for a long time.

(and one small question: How big is a webway portal? Small blastmarker or "ordnance" blast marker?)

DE are a long way off, probably 2 years or so (that's what I remember reading at least). The codex out now is the revised 3rd ed. 'dex, which fixed a few things but not others. No new models for the forseable future.

DE are not included in the new Eldar codex.

Webway armies in 4th have a lot of potential. Check the army lists section (I think they were ported from the last version of DD) and look for Garrison68; he posted/responded to a number of webway armies that all seemed fairly competitive.

Thanks, that answers alot of my questions. I agree that DE have alot of potential in this edition, since they're one of few armies that can assault out of vehicles and with WW portals they're great no matter the mission as Escalation doesn't hinder them and taking objectives is easy with 24" movement. They're fast and fragile, makes for a fun army to play.

to me, the best time to start the DE army was before GW pulled them off the shelves. At that time, you could get sprues from the 3rd ed box set for $5 for 20 warriors.

Now its all direct sales only. But, its still not a bad time to get into it, as everyone wants the newest craze, so they will sell what they have to get it. Now the time to get some stuff on the cheap.

ruleswise, SYR has it. Dont expect anything new for them for a awhile.

I've been playing around with wood elfs as Harlis and you might be able to do a nice DE army using the Woodies. Wood Elfs are some of the best plastics GW has made and there's a lot of potential there.

I've been running a Wych army for the past month and am totaly amazed at what a dang good army it is.
I've been using webay/raider tactics and have done well so far in the games I've played.
One of the armies I fought was a Deathguard army that was run by a person who took 2nd in a GT with Deathguard. I mauled his army pretty well and offed his lord and retinue by turn three of our game.
My next game was against a shooty Emperor's children army that had all the bells and whistles. By turn 5 he had only one squad left and a couple of demonnetes.
That's been pretty much the way my wyches have played. I use fantasy wyches as young trainees because they're smaller than the 40k ones, and Mandrakes make good wych models to supplement the small amount of different wych figs out there.
There's a good Dark Eldar set on ebay right now for a fair price if you want to get in the game in a big way.

I have 3 BN boxs (Raider, bikes, Joes), + 2 (maybe 3) starter boxes of DE IN. 1 Talos (NEW) and some metal: Incubi, Wyches, Homoncli, Dark Lances-in need of stripping/ I got them for cheap...I'd Be willing to worka trade or sell the lot somewhat cheap if your interested. I get back from Iraq mid NOV...So it will be a while until I can ship it. I was gonna do the web gate/bike army.

LMK what you have to trade or make an offer...no hurry tho. I guess Im interested in Tau, IG, Necrons...whatever really. Later.

I was thinking some combo of Dark Elf, Dark Eldar (mostly for the guns) and Wood Elf parts would work pretty well...
