They look great on the box art but some of the paintjobs are unflatering.  At least the characters still look bomb regardless of the paint

The figures are well posed and sculpted, but the scale of the weapons is absurd. Are they all going to be +1 strength to explain how they can lug around guns and crossbows that are just as big as the wielders?

Crossbow size seems feasible, but I'm with you supa on the guns. I think the powder monkey is kinda silly. But I can't wait for the State troops box personally. Landsknechts of doom dogs of war here I come.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.

Looks more like the older arquebus to me. I like the look. Looks more "realistic" for the period. The Dwarfs are the ones with the good technology.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I wanted to try and reserve judgement for better paint jobs, but :

O_O

Those pretty much look dumb across the board - not so much the enormous guns (I've had enough armies shot to death my Empire to fear gunlines, so they deserve the size I guess) as all the plumes, huge streamers on the guns and those damn tights!  I'd even deal with the skull-laden Eevil Empire GW seemed to be headed toward, if it meant that there was at least a little grittiness in these guys ...

Which I guess means a better (i.e. something muted, like on GM Kurt there) paint scheme could help things, but the huge plumes! Erg!

All the same, thanks for the pics, which make the Eldar Autarchs on the bottom half of the page all the more enticing

Hey Boss- be nice here- those heros all look fantastic, and I think some nice paint will make the plastics look amazing. Plus you seem to be forgeting the POWDER MONKEY!

Mmmmmmmm powder monkey.

Homer Simpson style?

Anyway, The Empire fig don't get me excited, whereas I have to admit the handguns aren't that unrealistic sized (for my tasting, it's not based on any facts).

The Eldar on the other hand look really nice with another paintjob.

Thanks for the pics.

Those guns are proposterous. They're going to make Dwarf weaponry look like cap guns in comparison.

*The crossbows look fine.

*Handguns are a tad long, at first I thought they where Hochland rifles but no.  They could still save it by giving them a resting fork though, as they did infact have those in history.  I plan to either model the barrels to be shorter (plastic people, plastic) or make a resting fork.

*Horses look fine, about time too!

*Cherub is dumb.  Definatly not getting that model, and when playing against those who do have it, that model gets my cannon/Brett. Charge/Trib.

Anyways thats what I think...though I do want to see the new spearmen, halberders, and swordsmen (Good staple units == yummy army, awesome looking hero's can always be converted).

As for plumage, a clip and a file solves that problem.

Well in terms of length let's look at the arquebus (which these are probably based on):

Or we could look at a rifle from the late 1700's:

Now obviously the new empire gunners are carrying rifles that are a bit longer then these- but as we know- the weapons on heroic scale minis are oversized for casting, dynamic and identification purposes.

The leader of the unit obviously has a huge gun, but it's in keeping with the size of the previous edition's engineer super-rifle.

And I don't mind the clockwork cherub on the standard bearer- if when I buy the model I decide it's too strange looking I can easily saw it off and have the other 98% of the model looking as gorgeous as it did before.

I have found my Heresy-era gImperial Guard. Thank you, GW! The Powder Monkey is an idea whose time has come. I hope to have a Eldar Farseer with Gravy Cat, and an Ork Warboss accompanied by a faithful Bullet Shark in the near future.

As for the giant gun issue, Old matchlock Hakbuts were that size, so they're not really too ginormous.

I think the Outriders with their miniguns and handheld mortars are the most ridiculous of the bunch. I can deal with the length of the guns, but we're really treading into AWI/Napoleonics here and away from, you know, "fantasy". Occasional appearances of black powder weapons, even in a few units, was one thing, but this is getting out of control. Just what Fantasy needed: 40k to bleed into it.

Even the Ratling gun pissed me off with their steampunk/dark/middleage-technology-whatever thing...but now even the empire? Lame!

I like the Characters though.

The real question is: why wouldn't there be a monkey.

A monkey with skulz!

Now that's thinking   Seriously though- why wouldn't there be a monkey in the empire?  People in  the western world have monkies as pets and have for years, regardless of the fact that they're not native to our area.

And why would a pirate have a parrot?!?  And wouldn't the fact that he's only got one eye mean his depth perception is a little off and as such make his darring swashbuckling less believable?  SOMEBODY WRITE A LETTER TO HOLLYWOOD!

I like the "Empire State Handgunners" and might even buy them.
As I nowadays only play 40K they will then be converted to a civilian mob (loose the hats, give the feathers to Kroot-indians, greenstuff some baggy trousers and autogunify the rifles).

Looks like GW should be sued for IP infringement from the guy who made ol' wallace and grommit.

On the whole, the range is turning out to be quite ridiculous and its a shame to waste plastic resources like that. Higher prices and now subpar minis.

The porsche of the gaming world indeed. Well I guess porsche is just glorified VW so it fits.

Quick! Everyone! Bbuy all the old minis from 6th that you can while you can, we are being inundated with insults to our aesthetic tastes!

Thats all well and good, but your opinion doesnt change mine nor does it mean I cant have mine. These definatly stink to high heaven and I stand by my earlier statement that it is a waste of plastic resources. I do however like the guns.

In fact, I have oodles of the 6th ed plastic empire if anyone is interested. It still makes me glad I do not play WHFB. What I play is already expensive enough as it is without pouring more money into this tripe.

Call me jaded but I see the vast majority of the people remarking in this thread dont feel too far away from how I do.

I love the 6th Ed. plastics and from what I've seen of the 7th, I'm not missing out. I'll keep me 6th and throw in some of the new heroes though.

Hellfury, PM'd you on the oodles of 6th plastic.
