I have seen this on the Warstore the last few times, and I am kinda surprised no one has mentioned this.  Its on pre-order now but the new book is one book with every update and add on they ever did. And I get the feeling from the way its described it  looks like a true resurrection of the old FASA rules. We shall see.

So, is anyone else stoked about this? This was the game that got me into miniature wargames, and it actually got alot of my non-gaming friends into it too.  I just regret getting rid of all my figs when I went to college.  When FASA folded I coulndt find a single player, although that was when GW was just starting to break out so it probably worked out ok. But I am truly excited about this coming, back.

Very cool. I may have to pick it up if I can find someone to play with.

Now, if only they'd do the same for Crimson Skies, we'd be in business...

Are you talking about the Total Warfare book? I've had that thing since Dragoncon, its not as amazing as you are making it out to be.

its a totally new book, with more rules and items added, but there will be a seperate book for construction rules (nothing in the main book about tonnages and crit spaces) which has kind of turned me off to the whole thing.

Its a product geared for being able to play tournies.

I assume you are talking about the Battletech Total Warfare (Classic) release (http://www.classicbattletech.com/). I've seen the book in my FLGS. It is a VERY well done product (from a production standpoint) with great full color illustrations and images. Has all of the original BT rules including Aerotech in one book. I was tempted to get it but then remembered why I sold all my BT stuff years ago. As much as I liked the game needing a sheet for each mech plus tracking heat just all got a bit too fiddly. But it always was a fun game and if you've never played you should check it out. They will be releasing a number of the old supporting items in an updated form as well.

There is a fair amount of errata posted already that is somewhat worrisome. On the other hand they quickly posted a nice complete set of errata.

I bought a copy of Total Warfare from Neal at the Warstore. The book is gorgeous, absolutely stunning production values. My only gripe is that the mini rules aren't included, but are supposed to be available on the website for free. Problem is they aren't posted yet.

We play a monthly big game at my FLGS (who botched the book order, hence Neal to the rescue) and it's great fun. Book and a lance of 4 mechs is well under $100.00, which is dirt cheap these days for entry into a game.

Ive still got all my old stuff from Battletech. 300+ mechs, 60+ vehicles, 60+ terrain pieces. Maybe Ill try to get a resurgence going at my LGS.

Its available?? Here I am sitting around waiting for the Warstore to say its available when I could be out buying it now. Can anybody point me to a reliable place to buy mechs these days?

Doesn't the Warstore carry mech minis? The CAV stuff will work as well. Also try www.warweb.com. They are a lot slower than Neal but otherwise ok.

If you're looking for mechs in the US, try here: www.exodus-road.com

According to their news page, the TechManual (CBT construction book) is due out in November.

As to why the construction rules have been cut from the rulebook, Herb Beas (one of the writers of CBT) has been running a blog over at classicbattletech.com about the development of the book, and he discusses that there.

If you want to talk about the game, check out some of the CBT forums. You may even be able to find players (or a Fanpro Ccommando) in your area.

On a Side note, If your getting back in to Battletech and want cool (plastic but 3d) terrain that's cheap and prepainted, try Heroscape. The Game is avalible at Walmart and Toys are us cheaper then at FLGSs with is sad over all but happy on the wallet. For the 40$ dollor basic game (about $70 at FLGS) you get a ton of Hex based terrain to build cool maps to play battle tech on(this is really cool with minis).

Plus cool extra terrain add ons like this snow and ice pack.

Plus as an added bonus your get Heroscape with is a pretty fun game. It's very fast for a minis game and is a little more random then most table topgames. Terrain set up usily takes more time then the games.

I was really pumped when I saw this was coming out.  Unfortunately, as a college student money is pretty tight, so I'll probably have to pass on this for a few years.  That's life I guess.

Holy shenanigans that scenery is pretty neat! Of course, I've already got piles of other scenery for that scale (I was always an inch based vs. hex-based person, myself), but even so, booyah!

I'm pretty excited about B-tech coming back out. I've still got a couple of companies of mechs lying around, waiting to be repainted. Very cool.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Well that Heroscape idea must be the best idea of the week! I have no interest in Fantasy so I'd never paid any attention to the game. I assume the hexes are at least 1" across? Would be great for games of Ogre/GEV as well. It would even be great for some tactical board games like Advanced Squad Leader.

Well I picked up a copy of ‘Heroscape’. The hexes are in groups. So there are 24, 7, 3, 2, and single hex tiles. There are also 21 blue water tiles that are half the height of the regular tiles so they form a depressed river or lake bed. The larger tile groups are in a slightly odd shape (which is good). The tiles are 1 3/4 inches across with a 1 1/2 inch surface and are 1/4” high. They come in three colors, green (forest), bluish gray (rough?), tan (clear).

If you laid all the hexes out in a single layer (probably not useful but it gives you an idea of how much you get) it would form a playing surface of 21" x 45" or 11 hexes x 30 hexes.

I haven’t played ‘Battletech’ in ages so I don’t remember the sizes of the board/table for that game. But for comparison Steve Jackson Games’ ‘Ogre’ board is 15 x 21 hexes, ‘GEV’s’ is 23 x 23 hexes, and ‘Advanced Squad Leader' boards are 10 x 31. So three boxes or so of Heroscape (or maybe a couple expansions?) would probably give you enough of the various tiles to use for many different games.

I just got my copy of total war yesterday. I am dissipointed to say my LGS did not even know what I was talking about when I asked about it, but thats a different story.

Anyway, the lay out of the book is awesome, decent pics, good diagrams, and a bit of fluff as well. I think someone mentioned battletech being a "fiddly" game. Certain aspects of that were what drew me to it originally but haveing read this book I forgot how fiddly it can get. Not that it turns me off of it. Get me in game I'll be back on this stuff quick. Hopefully those additional books will start coming out soon, looks like I need to buy new technical readouts too, as they have all been redone.

aww it feels good to be back...

wanna hear somehting weird...I feel like Im cheating on my space marines looking at a battle mech catalog.
