Nice battle report, but what's the deal with the chaos cultists? CSM armies can't take LatD allies, and Khorne armies can't take cultists. And his list was most definitely not an LatD list. Were you playing house rules on this?

It may not have been legal, but it didn't seem to be unfair and I thought it could make for an interesting game so I let it go.  There were a few other anomalies.  The Defiler didn't have a Mark of Khorne and he kept forgetting to summon his Bloodletters.  I'm definitely turned on to Daemon Princes through now and might just build one for my Black Legion.

Fair enough.

Yeah, that demon prince absorbed a ton of firepower.

Kooky Khorne list - I'm guessing he was using some old Chapter Approved cultist rules? Cause even Alpha Legion can't take 50-strong cultists normally - and I noticed that the Daemon Prince must have had around 5 wounds, judging from the play-by-play. Huh.

That said, nice report, w00t for pics. I dig the demo crater around the defiant prince too, very nice.

I usually get bored reading battle reports but yours was good and fun to read.

1 question it seems you are using you Stormtroopers as anti tankers.  Why not take droop troops and veterans and then deep strike your vets?  I think 3 meltas would be more effective than 2.  Also cheaper models.  You seem to miss a lot with those storm troopers.  Just wondering..

Drop Troops/ Vets definitely is more cost effective, but not at all in line with my fluff.  It's supposed to be an armored cav unit, but I've been tinkering around with my doctrines lately and I think the new loadout is going to be something like Iron Discipline,  Rough Riders(can't push a horse out of an airplane), Vets, Grenadiers, and Cameleoline.  This configuration will give me groups of 10 Vets w/Las/Plas that will get 3+ cover save in ruins.  I'll use small squads of grenadiers with plasma to either counter attack/defend the tanks or add their fire to the Vets.  The Heavy weapons will be in F.S squads, or on sentinals and the rough riders will be there to hit anyone who deep strikes.  For armor, demolishers, basilisks and hellhounds.  I just need to find an easy way to paint cameloline an then I'll take it to a tourney to see if it can work.

Vehicles don't get marks.

You were unlucky with the Stormtroopers not taking out the Defiler, but I think you wasted the Basilisk in trying to take it out. I know it worked eventually, but it would have been best used against troops or the (illegal) Prince.

You're probably right about using the Bassies on the Berzerkers.  Had they been more aggressive (running at me rather than backwards) I would have, but since they were distracted and the DP had a 2+ armor save, I decided that the Defiler was the biggest threat.  Killing it on turn 6 was more of a moral victory than anything else.
