Now that 4th is well and truly out, and we have had several codex's out to look at, what would you say the current power rankings are?

Uber power:

Ultras (the drop pod build)

Chaos (several nasty builds from this codex)

Blood Angels (Tried and true cheese)

Eldar 4th edition redux (is it still uber or not??)

Power:

Nids (toned down yes, but there are builds that can do some damage)

Black Templars (new codex)

Tau (str 5 basic weapons, whats not to like)

SOB (whats not to like about chicks with big uhhhh guns...)

Dark eldar (say what you will, these guys can be nasty)

California brown outs:

Orks (need that codex bad)

IG (no manuverability in an addition that demands it)

necrons (one build....)

Deamon Hunters (it costs how much to do what???)

The Great State of Texas

Hurricane Camille coming to a theater near you:

Blood Angels (Tried and true cheese) (free abilities vs. standard codex marines)

Ultras (the drop pod build)

Chaos (several nasty builds from this codex)

Eldar 4th edition redux (is it still uber or not??)

Tropical Storm goodness:

necrons (one build....) (I’d put them in the power category. The properly mastered necron list can be fast and brutal)

Nids (toned down yes, but there are builds that can do some damage)

Black Templars (new codex)

Mech Tau (str 5 basic weapons, whats not to like)

Dark eldar (say what you will, these guys can be nasty)

Feral Orks

Armored company

 Summer Squall:

Foot Tau

Orks (need that codex bad)

SOB (whats not to like about chicks with big uhhhh guns...) (I’d move the Nuns with Guns to a level just slightly better than IG-they areb tough but definitely beatable)

IG (no maneuverability in an addition that demands it)

the spire of angels

this is not a cut and dried answer

powered how?

firepower? resiliance? gunnerry?

alot of what makes an army effective is how it is built and generaled

for example-

there are many builds for necrons, IG are not neccisary static they are just most often played that way, and the examples go on and on

power wise the tau have the biggest guns in the game and the next highest tech after the eldar but they have IG level gunnery base, eldar are amazing in CC but they are only T3 base, marines are the mid level most versatile army-good gunnery, toughness and options decent close combat. but are not that overly specialised like some other armies that are designed to do one thing really well.

so i find classifying them as the topic describes to be unrealistic at best.

This is how I would rank them in terms of the best tournament armies. I have not broken any of the armies down because it gets way too conjectural then.

Top level: (One of these armies will probably win the RTT)
Space Marines
Chaos Space Marines
Tyranids

Upper level: (These armies could win and are the spoiler for the above armies, usually)
Eldar
Dark Eldar
Tau

Mid level: (These are solid, but require a VERY good player to win with them)
SoB
Necrons

Low level: (Don't try to win an RTT with these guys unless you are a pro)
Imperial Guard
Orks
Daemonhunters

Add to the low-level: Kroot Mercs.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Wierd - Eldar just won Heat 2 to match their Heat 1 victory. Look a pretty good tournie army to me still!

I've not seen Tyranids win anything. Why does everyone rate them so much?

@Torgoch, Have you ever faced a Godzilla Nidz shooty army? The underpricing of the Dakkafex is the thing that drives me crazy. I have great luck beating Eldar but Godilla Nidz wins alot of RTT's around these parts. The only thing that can really hurt Nidz is "escallation."  I think Nidz will be one of the match-ups that is very unfavorable for Eldar. Nidz kill skimmers easily and genestealers will be one of the few units that will not fear harlies.

4th ed mech Eldar vs Godzilla shooty Nidz will be one of my favorite matchups to see.

I've played against pseudo-godzilla, and i play 6 MCs in my Tyranids sometimes. I know they are rated a power list, but not by me - I wouldn't fear facing it with Tau, Iron Warriors or Droppers. Can't make a call on Eldar, don't play 'em.

The point I was trying to make is that while the 'zilla nids may have a rep, I haven't seen them do well anywhere. The above posters don't seem to rate Eldar, but Eldar have just won Heats 1 and 2, so something is amiss in their judgements.

What's the Ultramarine based Pod Power Build? Most powerful Pod Lists I've ever seen were Traited Lists with Cleanse & Purify w/ either the BP+CCW trait or Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients to take Venerable Dreads in Heavy w/ Termies in Elites & HQ

I'd say they're in this order:

God Tier
Chaos
Space Marines
?? Eldar ?? - Don't know after the new dex but it looks promising
Blood Angels
Nids

I'd say Chaos wins over Marines for pure brokenness.

Top Tier
Necrons
Tau
Feral Orks
Dark Eldar
Witch Hunters
IG
Kult of Speed
Variant Marine Chapters (Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Templars)

Low Tier
Demon Hunters
Codex & Clan Orks

I tried to put them in an order of sorts.

Things change around for some matchups. Necrons kill Tau and possibly Eldar, they're a huge spoiler army (which is probably why I'm so tempted to start them). But Necrons get beat by the best Marine & Chaos lists along with Godzilla Nids.  Sisters are actually a pretty good Wildcard too, like Necrons they can really screw over some top tier lists (Sisters vs Deathwing style Pods is not fun, trust me).  Guard are varible, but still low on the list compared to others.

Eldar are still a wildcard, we still have to see how bad they'll fair after the dex is out for a while.

God Tier Dex's have the possibility of really running roughshod over everything else in almost every category. Iron Warriors and Deathwing Styled Drop Pods can dominate at 1850.

not really. All the posters above you classed them in the second most powerful level or thereabouts.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Eldar are near the top in 3rd edition with the strength of the starcannon, and some of the things you can do with the craftworld codex.

They took a big hit in 4th edition, and you will not see them near the top of GTs again. They are powered more like the Tau now and you will see some lists climb, but they are not on the level of the true 'heavy hitters'.

The person who won Heat 1 was using a Craft World/3rd Ed Eldar list (3 Shot Starcannon, etc).  The winner of Heat 2 however I believe was using the new Eldar dex.

No Craftworlds. I'm sure he should have been using 3rd edition codex - as far as i am aware a codex requires a 1 month run-in before you can use it, so the new eldar list won't be used until the final, when the harlequin / fire prism / vibrocannon list will storm the top tables.

It amuses me to see everyone place IG so low. I confess, I haven't been as active in tournaments since 4th ed launched, but given that Mechanized IG led to "Best Team Tacticians" at Adepticon last year, I don't think 4th ed broke the mechanized Guard over-much.

Now, granted, if you're playing all-foot on terrain-heavy tables, or just playing IG wrong, they can suck.

My concern is the guy on the other side of the dice, not his little miniatures.
