First off, man, did some things get expensive. We played 1500 points and I had 34 models it total-a lot less than my older Ulthwe army.  Things that I discovered during gameplay:

-If you can play against non Marine armies, this makes for a very entertaining game. We always compare effectiveness vs. Marines (as they are the most numerous), but getting to lay down lots of AP5 shooting vs. IG is quite a sight. Then again, Flamers and Heavy Flamers vs. Guardians was also a hoot for my opponent. Yesterday, our local shop had 2 Dark Angel armies, one Vanilla Marine, 2 Tau, 3 Eldar, 1 Emperor's Children, 1 Tyranid and 1 IG. Not a bad mix at all. A far cry from early 3rd edition.

-Eldrad. I like him. Missions like Cleanse and Recon that forces you to keep a certain distance away during set up. Put the Falcon way up front as a pushback unit and as bait. Then move the Falcon away after all deployment's done. Very interesting ability which is hard to quantify.

-Warwalkers in COD. My 3 have Shuriken Cannon/Scatterlaser. Even against Marines, I like this build in COD where AP isn't nearly that big an issue. For 150 points, not too bad a point sink.

-Still like my Falcons, even in COD. Lots of shooting, but not really much of a price increase. My two went up 10 and 5 points respectively.

-Ok, everyone says Guardians are useless. Dump a full squad out of a Waveserpent with a Shuriken Cannon and Warlock w/ Destructor. For giggles, Doom the target unit. Even catapults are deadly. Also, COD, cover helps their poor armor (except for those damn flamers). They are more expensive now, granted, but I do like that I can put them in a WS with a support weapon. However, Starcannons on platforms I am not too sold on. Very expensive. They are no uber unit, but I won't go in and say useless.

-Saw a couple of games with the Eldar. I'm still not completely sold on min Jetbike squads. All had the single Cannon upgrade, so 76 points a squad. T4, 3+ Save is a Marine, however, there are only 3 models with an 8 LD. Hiding them can be very situational and if your opponent gets to shooting, off they go. Autarchs on a bike with Lance is pretty effective. 6 S6 Powerweapon attacks on the charge is very nice, especially for Eldar. I expect to see a lot of this combo. In fact, I'm off to convert a Shinging Spear exarch for my own collection.

-Fire Prism, while tough like a Falcon have one glaring weakness over the Falcon: Weapon Destroyed result. The Falcon will keep on and may have a payload to deliver. The FP, well, maybe it can tank shock and it is still a scoring unit. I'm not sold on them as to replace my Falcons, but this may be a bit biased as I love running my two gunships.

-Harlequins, well, I think folks just have to get used to them. None seemed to be overly effective. Needs more playtime.

-Dire Avengers jumping out of Wave Serpents and the hail of shuriken fire was suprising. This was against non Marines, but they are a great part for a one-two punch to a unit. They take the FoF to a new level. Thank you Tau players for this tactic.

-Finally, in true Eldar fashion, they need the mutual support of each unit to win games. You can't think one unit will be the uber unit and win the game. I see a lot of the same lists on the net and have seen them played, but I don't think it is the only build for Eldar. However, I do feel mechanized is the common thread for tourney winning Eldar.

Just my .02 and observations after finally getting my dex and getting some games in.

After some actual gameplay I concur, especially on the min jetbike squads (hard to hide and fold up when shot) and the serpent-mounted DA's (surprisingly central support unit that lets you do stuff that Eldar usually can't do).

The support thing is key. Cookie cutters don't cut it for Eldar.

Can you doom a target unit? I thought you had to doom your own squad, therefore you can't doom the guardians in the waveserpent because they're in a transport.

Nice write up anyways.

Doom is on the enemy unit. This means that ANY to-wounds are rerolled (which is nifty, when half the army unloads on the poor SOBs who got Doomed).

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

I played several games of Combat Patrol this weekend, and I was 2 to 1 (not counting the game that I accidentally took a farseer on, before my opponent and I realized that since that was a 3W critter it was right out!). The harlequins did very well, a metric tonne of rending attacks on a (5 man) space marine squad means one dead squad, every time.

However, I failed every single leadership test I had to take! One battle went, basically: Harlie's shot, break, run away, regroup, run + fleet, shot, regroup, run-away....

Since the entire op-force was fearless, my rangers were just kind of 'annoying', not deadly.

If the rangers had been able to pin the squad....

I'm not sold on small Jetbike units either. For grabbing quarters, I think. Just move them fast all the time and they become hard to hurt and will stick around.

Falcons to me are just too useful. All those guns (if you give it the Shuricannon upgrade) and it will stick around most of the game causing havoc and transporting nasty squads where needed. The Prism looks cool, but I dunno... The One Gun does limit it in the Weapon Destroyed Department. Maybe a Shuricannon is called for on him.

Walkers are still dang fragile, regardless of not being Open-Topped anymore. Their Scout move keeps them out of trouble if you're careful, and they should always get to shoot.

As far as I am concerned right now, the Farseer is the way to go with the HQ choices. The Autarch looks decent, but he is only S3 himself, and I am not likely to field the BikeLance combo everyone favors. A Farseers DOOM is the best choice, and my Farseers will always have it. Heck, a Dooomseer with Storm would be fun - Doom target, Storm them with large template, reroll wounds, maybe get a Pin.

I am having alot of luck with my Saim Hann lately.
This could be due to new codex syndrome where opponents have to get used to new tactics and units.

1850pt games COD

farseer on bike doom fortune
4 spearlocks on bikes with destructor and one with enhance

1 x5 wraithgaurd unit with spearlock

2 dire avangers in serpents
2 squads of 4 jetbikes with spearlock no shuricannons

1 squad of 5 swooping haws with kitted exarch
1 sqaud of 4 shining spears with kitted exarch

6 warwalkers with scatterlasers
1 wraithlord with scatterlaser, flamers, BigHonkinSword

I throw the warlocks in with the shining spears, since they are a seperate unit. They are the most effective fast assault unit I am using right now and great for saim hann flavor. Simply powerful. Especially the spears as they are able to reroll dificult terrain tets and hit and run while leaving the spearlocks behind so that the unit they disengaged cannot shoot back at them if they survive. This is the strongest tactic I have found using them yet. I may add the jetbikes in the future isntead of spearlocks on bikes for this, as they are cheaper.

the warwalkers are fragile, but I am finding them effective all the same. Scatterlasers because Iii am able to find long fire lanes to place them with scouting.

wraithlord for fun, but he works well in COD. its nice giving him coversaves *evilgrin* That and he travels with his little brothers for a nice solid slow moving unit. implacable when you need to hold a building.

the jetbikes I am having luck with as well, but I play them like I play my tau gundrones. Hide and seek style. Disposable ultimatly.

Dire avengers are usually the first to get into the thick of it. I view them as disposable too, but more effective firepower and survivable wise than jetbikes.
