Tyranid Shock Wave

Here’s a Tyranid force of entirely close combat specialists. How well does this army actually work?

The carapace incorporates Vallejo Black and Dark Prussian Blue (I think that’s what it’s called). I think the bluish black color is reminiscent of a beetle.

I think the contrast works out nicely. Tyranids have really only three parts. The two principle areas are Carapace and Flesh and then the interior muscle areas (at the joints). You have to choose carefully the contrast you want there. In this case, I think there’s a good warm-cold contrast as well as a good light-dark contrast. They stick out nicely.

The pattern on the dragon wings is an afterthought on the part of Andy Harward, the painter, who pulled it from the Tyranid book.

The major challenge of this project was, as usual for Tyranids, getting the prototypes right. After that almost all the pieces follow the same pattern.
