Hey all,

This is my first outing with my new Eldar army.  I'd love nothing more than some solid tactical discussions and army list recommendations.  Follow the link for the battle report.

Thanks for posting the report!
Some questions:

Is this a fixed list, or do you change the list to suit your opponents? If the latter, I really wouldn't field Reapers against IG. Hawks or Spiders might do better, as they have both anti-infantry and anti-vehicle roles that could deal with a mixed armor/infantry IG list well. If your list is fixed for MEQ (or your budget is tight), then Reapers are workable if not optimal here.

Also, good use of your Vypers to draw fire, and then good luck on taking out that Hellhound with the remaining shuriken cannon.

I like the IG player's converted tank bodies- not so much the barrels, but the chassis are cool. Are those converted Stuarts?

One niggly thing:

You forgot to say how many DAs you used.

Oh, and I liked the campaign rules at the bottom of the page. They look involved, but well thought-out.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Thanks for the tips.

The list was my first crack at Eldar and it was basically an all comers sort of list.  The Reapers definitely didn't accomplish that much, I don't have an exarch for them, but if I did, I'd probably take crack shot with a tempest launcher.  That way, nobody could get cover saves.  Those guardsmen were making saves like crazy, luckily they couldn't hit anything with their heavy weapons.

The player indeed converted his basilisk from a Stuart tank.  I think the othe two were from Sherman models.  I liked his army, he had all those really old school I.G, A full generation before my metal Cadians.  They still look nice though.

Nice report, and I like the color scheme on your grav-tanks, etc. Black with bright green lining, very nice.

Thanks!

Great Batrep. I really enjoyed it. I'm just starting an eldar army (waiting on santa delivering some GW gift vouchers).

I'm glad to see the DA's with WS performing the way I had thought as I'm planning on having a couple of them.

Nice to see someone taking a Vyper or two and having a bit of success with them as they are sub par in a lot of peoples eyes (mine included).

Thanks for sharing this.

I've played a few games since the posted one and i think I've found how one or two vypers can really be used well.  In many respects they function like jetbikes, being able to hide and then grab a table quarter at the end of the game.  I think the key is not to expend them too early.  They are stupidly fragile, but make great counter attack units.  I've found that when a player makes a bold play with armor or if your other grav tanks are moving into position and shooting, the vypers are good at throwing a few more anti-armour shots into the enemy, and then not being a high priority enough target to shoot at.  Granted, they are a bit more expensive and you can't take nine of them like you used to, but I've had good experiences with them so far.

hi sam, nice report... just a modeling question?

was your opponent using shermans/grants hulls to proxy his lemman-russes?

which scale were they? you described them as:

-Leman Russ w/two heavy bolters, lascannon
-Leman Russ Demolisher w/two heavy bolters, lascannon

where the heavy bolter sponsosn modelled in any way? (I can´t see them on the pictures)

Yeah, I suppose Grants and Stuarts are the same thing more or less.  I believe the models were 1/35 scale.  The Heavy Bolters were modeled on as small swivel turrets attached to the front of the tank on either side just below the main turret.  They were definitely small and hard to see in the pics, but they were there.
