What are peoples thoughts on the heavy mortars from forge world?  For 150 points you get three ap4 str6 indirect pie plates.  However they have to follow the barrage fire rules, so you are only targeting one unit at a time.  Personally, I think that a single infurno cannon is more dangerous, however the models are just so increadably sweet.  Do these guns have a place in a guard army, compeating wtih a basilisk?  I think they would be amazing in an all infantry force.

nice, after I seen the picture I thought...o look they remade the griffon model.

Well, I like Griffons better for +25 pts but since I can only field one due to my Russ and Demolisher taking the other two slots I could not field two which I think is neccesary to be effective. With these you get up to 3 for a single choice, these take the cake for me. Very nice indeed...I noticed there is no special ammunition? Bummer but still very nice!

I always thought point for point a Griffon beat out a Basilisk anyway.  This is much better.

I like the concept. Its true artillery support and simulates a platoon calling in some serious fire support-but not substantially anti-armor (tank or MEQ) which balances its effectiveness.

Having said that these are draft rules. I am betting inthe final version you will not have the option of putting nine heavy mortar templates on the board.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Actually they probably will. Remember these are batteries of guns. So the first three would have to target one unit with scattered templates touching the template of the first round that hit, then the next three at another, ect. Like I said even with nine total mortars not really overpowering against 95% of the armies out there. Like I said, an inferno cannon would probably get you the same number of hits per three round salvo.

Its a pretty good deal for the points. There aren't too many armtillery units in the game that get to be fired using the multiple barrage rule. They could be quite painful to any heavy infantry army, even MEQs. Though this is partly kept in line with their relatively short range. The models are just stunning too. I wouldn't use more than one unit because after 2 or 3 turns your enemy will get close enough to kill them quite quickly. I'd rather have one soft artillery unit that trys to make its points back, while leaving room for a Bas or russ or two. The armour is tougher and then presents your opponent with dilema of what to fire on, or splitting his fire and reducing its effectiveness. The thudd guns look great too. Though I prefer the mortars because the thudds are each a seperate unit even when bought in a battery and they have to roload.

It states that it can be used to fire indirectly as well as in point defense in direct fire mode. Does this mean that instead of G12-60 it is fired at BS3 up to 60"?

I also like the ability to buy a few ablative wounds for the crew. 5 crewmen could give it some staying power, No?
