Is it legal for chaos terminators and their followers (chaos spawn, chaos hounds) to deepstrike together, or is it termies only?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, everyone.

I am new to chaos and navigating around in the book is somewhat confusing for a newb ...

Followers don't gain the abilities of their parent character, so if you take any followers it essentially means the unit is unable to Deep Strike (as some of the models in the unit aren't allowed to deploy that way).

I'll partially disagree. This is a situation very similar to the "Turboboosting Hounds" quandary.

(It's frustrating to be unable to find a reference for this, but see if this rings a bell.)

A QnA stated that Hounds don't Turbo, but 'still just keep up, somehow' with Boosting Bikers.

IOW, they maintain Coherency without Boosting, and thus gain no I Save as do the Marines.

While Teleport/ Infiltration weren't directly addressed, the principle seems near enough, imo.

Put simply, Wargear maintains Unit Coherency whether it's on a separate base or not.

Thus, no philosophical grounds to deny Hounds deploying with the Unit that paid for them.

Thralls and Spawn are a different matter as they're listed as Gifts, not Wargear.

IIRC, the same FAQ stated that generated Spawn would slow flying Sorcerors using GoC.

So, I make the call - Wargear, yes. Gifts, no.

Playa,

You do know that's because the rules for Chaos Hounds state that they move as the same speed as their master, so there is a genuine rule behind why they are able to keep up with a turbo-boosting model.

You cannot simply apply special rules at will to models that don't have them. Models in Terminator armor can Deep Strike, models not in Terminator armor cannot Deep Strike unless they possess the Deep Strike special rule in another form.

well to be more specific the entry for daemon spawn says that they cannot be taken in transports or infiltrated, but no mention of limiting any other forms of transit. Possibly an oversight...

It seems odd that they list those two specifically but not deepstriking.

But as we know, redundant given examples don't suddenly change the core rule.

oh yes true true. I was citing that reason in case there was something hidden in the chaos dex that said otherwise.

That's exactly what we've been talking about. Familiars are followers.

There are no blanket rules saying that ollowers automatically gain the abilities of their parent character, and there are certainly no specific rules saying that followers may Deep Strike if their character can.

Soooooo, units containing followers cannot Deep Strike.

They would get fried in the teleporter or whatever fluff explanation you want to come up with.
