Well... what is it?

I like the GW ones for my 40K crap but for those odd and/or over sized things.

What do you say?

I have nothing useful to add.

I use a combination:

1. For armies that have minimum/small vehicles, I use an old GW case (mostly for my Eldar, but also for other small count infantry armies)
2. For vehicle heavy and odd but consistently shaped armies, or transport of a lot of figs, I use a couple of army transports. I've carried my marines, sisters, and ork KOS in one of those for a long time.
3. For really oddly shaped armies (Warlord Reven, Warmachine...well, anything) I use a $5 pistol case with eggcrate foam on top and customizable foam on the bottom layer. Put the infantry on top and cut out spaces for the 'jacks, artillery, etc. below. Perfect!
4. For basic transport of large number of figs that don't fit the above categories, I have two rifle cases with eggcrate foam. Unwieldy, but worked great when I moved.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Sabol works well. Just about everyone in my group uses it.

The custom cases you build yourself are the best.

its hard for us to tell you what "best" is based on our needs. What are yours?

I prefer a hard shell case, just incase something lands on it (that leaves sabol right out).

Tool boxes stuffed with foam seems to be the ones people like the best from whatt i have seen, even though sabol is popular, the soft case is a drawback that could hurt you at somepoint. (youd wished you had bought a hard shell when somebody trips on it, accidentally sits on it, etc.)

Primary case is a sabol motor pool transport. I can carry multiple armies in it (Usually my 2250 point WHFB army, and an 1850 40k army)... works wonderfully.

Secondary cases for quick load ups, or when I want to carry multiple 40k armeis, Plano Pistol Cases... like $8 from wal-mart.

Well what I realy need is somethig for my Warmachine figs. I've been using an old case that GW sold in the way-back days but it has one broken latch and it will overflow sometime next week.
I'm looking for a more permenant solution. I've been eyeing the Sabol ones but I'm not sure about the size. Everything except the platoon case looks to be too much for what I need.
I can store the minis anywhere but getting them around places has proven to be a problem without a propper trasportation solution.

I have nothing useful to add.

I use a home made carrier that's basically a hollow cube with slots cut in the insides to allow sliding trays to fit in. The trays have metal sheet photomounted on them, and the models have small rare earth magnets in their bases.

This arrangement is the best way to totally protect your models. Even the soft foam will wear off paint over time.

That said, it's not nearly as tough as a foam lined hardcase. If I had to throw my army out of a plane, I'd put them in a hardcase. The magenet system protects them from being touched at all, but even moderate shocks, bumps, etc. can cause the models to shift and bang into each other.

I use the Sabol Platoon small Army Transport for my Warmachine. Works great.

I use a full size Army Transport for my Dark Angels, and bought extra trays so I can swap in other armies if I need to.

I still have three GW hardside cases- one holds my Eldar infantry, one has most of my Wood Elves, one holds all my CSM infantry. Most of my WH Chaos Warriors are also tucked into extra space in the latter two.

My Eldar vehicles (six grav tanks so far), wraithlords, support weapons, Avatar, war walker, and jetbikes go in two more hardsided gun cases. Most of the cavalry, furies, spawn, and chariot from my Chaos Warriors go in yet another large-ish gun case.

Most of my Chaos vehicles are still in cardboard boxes at this point. 2 Sabol transports and six hardside cases later, I still need more storage.

I have a Plano tool box with five foam trays sized, including one that I cut to fit large infantry/bike models, that I use to carry around my Space Marines all in one box. Before that I had four Chessex hard cases, which have now been pressed into use for my historicals armies.

I also picked up several big cheap plastic tool boxes from Wally world (Target, K-mart and other such stores surely have the same things), roughly $8 each. I then took a soft foam "eggcrate" mattress pad (the same stuff used in GW's original hard cases before they eventually switched to foam trays), and using a straight edge and a heavy utility knife, cut it to fit. Two of these hold my fantasy army, while a third holds even more historicals.

edit: When I was playing 40k, I ran mechanized marines. See the thread on how to carry an Armored Company around for details on my "ghetto carrier".

I usually use the vehicle boxes. One box gives you two trays to put stuff in. If I ever actually get my stuff painted, I'll have to upgrade.
