Now normally I wouldn't think about a large stealth squad because of the difficulties in hiding them and the fact that they become somehwat ungainly. However, with a farsight council list, the obvious big threat is Farsight and his council of slow strength smashing everything. What Farsight lacks however, is a way to deal with big hordes (that ork horde battle report in the battle report section comes to mind).

I was wondering if anyone had tried a large squad of stealth suits with any success? By large, I mean probably 5-6 stealth suits each with a gundrone for like 10-12 models. It comes in at a hefty 210 points but kicks out alot of firepower. Additionally, it is another squad that benefit mightily from a well placed markerlight. With the traditional railheads and kroot absent from a farsight list, I thought this might be the best way to get soem anti-horde.

just curious why you would take a  gun drone with crapppy shooting and pinning that hardly affects anybody aymore when you can take a shiield drone or 2  and give the squad a 4+ invul?

Sadly we play 1500, so no space for stealth in my farsight list. At 1850 I would definitely take them, probably 6 strong + a few gun drones to take advantage of the markerlights.

I've used large stealth squads many times - they are very effective, but the danger is trying to demand to much from them and over exposing them. With farsight around to support the squad, you lessen that danger.

If Farsight could take 2 squads then i'd spliy for scoring units, but as you noted elsewhere, sadly he can't.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I can see mileage in adding drones to Farsight squads simply because of the 0-1 restriction.

The best loadout for steathsuits is four suits with no extras. I fully endorse adding gun drones though even in non Farsight lists as Tau elite slots are always premium and my stealthsuit team needs to be maxed out with six members to make best use of it. Gun drones work and work well, better than with any other unit so I add two to my Xv15 team. There is good mileage in this, gun drones have the same range and add pinning tests to the teams firepower and team size is upped to eight. Pinning tests being valuable and viable in most anti-horde roles.

I am still not sure about adding drone controllers to every suit with Xv25's, the firepower dividends are less as you only get one pinning test with all the extra drones shooting but with enough gun drones they start acting as shield drones, taking the hits first by outnumbering the battlesuits. This can only be a good thing. With full capacity six drones will have to be destroyed before the first suit is shot, and as the firepower/points ratio remains the same I cant see a problem with this.

On the other hand Whirlwinds become a problem and the team can get so big that it might not be able to adequately flee away from trouble with the jetpack move.

I can wholeheartedly recommend adding two drones to a team. Less sure about shield drones (they shouldnt be shot at much and then usually by basic weapons that get too close). Rather shaky on massed gun drones and massed shield drones are way off.

Then there is the stealth markerlight team, which is horribly expensive but to be fair has its adherents. Personally I dont approve.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
