Just wondering what the general consensus on posessed marines is? They seem like fun but a bit expensive at 22pts ea.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

They can be worth it if they have flight or speed and have a specific purpose in mind. I know a Death Guard player that uses a squad of ten possessed with Daemonic Flight and Mark of Nurgle. They are tough, have melta guns, and a power fist.

If you upgrade the squad with an Aspiring Champion you can get a combi-melta and that Power Fist... otherwise your friend is cheating by giving them melta guns. Possessed only get Bolt Pistols, CCW and whatever upgrade in Daemonic Gifts they get.

I take them in khorn armies because a squad with tallons costs slightly more than a tooled out squad of berzerkers and does just as well if not better against everything. They are just there for variety.

I'm probably remembering it wrong.  It's been a couple of years

Possessed are only good in two situations:

A pure World Eaters army, especially if you are doing the Power Armor Horde. Comparitively a unit of them is only slightly more than your running Berserkers. They rage, have access to talons, and get an Invulnerable Save.

Cityfight, which changes the effectiveness of several of your units. Since Cityfight usually comes down to an assault to rout the enemy out of a building, Possessed really start to shine. I can't remember if they have Frags but a big enough unit of them can take a few casualties and still cause a massive amount of damage. Support them with a Lord or Dreadnought and you are clearing buildings in no time.

No frags for Possessed other than the AC as wargear.

Possessed are fun
EC armies possessed a no brianer talons
WE armies Mutation and axes of khornes(lots of attacks)
DG Flight with Ac (with Rot)
1kson flight and each givnig winds of chaos talk about killing off hordes of troops Ive use this unit once and it rocked killing off two full squads of marines in the shooing phase ( yes two)
the poor guy had his assault unit in front of his tactical squad and since its a flamer template
heck i use all my Ac in my possess squads as Deamon vessels Kinda pricey but its worth it

I've used a 5-model thousand sons possessed squad with flight and 4 gifts of chaos (plus warp focus) in a tournament one time. Once they make a spawn they can't fly anymore, but they are pretty sure of getting the powerfist guy before they charge in the first time (and then they can grind the rest of the squad away, coming out a the end as a footslogging squad with 3-4 2-wound ablative followers).

I wouldn't call it a good value, but it was fun to play.

Huh? How is that a no brainer? That are still way more expensive than daemonettes! And they can't take a PW/LC like normal NMs. And no frags, so cover screws them royally.

I like them with Daemonic Visage, -2 to your opponents leadership at the end of the assault phase sounds good to me. Nice & cheap as an upgrade.

But then I don't like to spend scads of points on one unit - I like them more as something your opponent will worry are far more nasty than you've made them for 2 points extra, probably laying more fire in their direction than they're worth.

But that's just me.

He clutched it tightly in his hand and turned towards his foe letting it build in the twin energy spheres and then finally! RELEASE! The throbbing weapon ejaculated burning white fluid over them as Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! laughed manfully!" - From the epic novel, Bloodstorm! Ravenblade! Obliterates! the!
