Don't sweepstakes have to have a freebie or something?

Just wondering.

They do. This is illegal in the US and Canada and someone should tell him. Making a contest entry contingent on a purchase it not legal.

Meh.

What does BWB care? They obviously dont feel the AMOE should be adhered to.

Take care.

As a simile, I agree. Thats what happens when you turn an ally into an enemy. Loyalty works both ways.

Go ahead...say the word...you know Jester wants to say it...go ahead....make my day punk! lol

Wow Hellfury what a service you have done in reporting BwBits to the FED. They are trying to reward customers and do something for Fantasy players just the same as GW did with their subscription deal...but better, yeah yeah and make a buck.

Seems like Hellfury is just being a bit of a jerk for no reason...perhaps posts like this is why Dakka's boards have become a haven for what seem to turn into IMs for Hellfury, Malfred, and Jester. You three are practically the only posters on the majority of threads.

Gee I hope your stupid money order never malfunctions due to you slow mailing response, again...dont want you to get tired flexing you internet muscles and email the government because your not happy with a totally separate issue.

Snitches get stiches...or did you not learn that lesson. Hellfury=Rat

Malfred and Jester have nothing to do with the issue. In fact they make light of my situation to keep my normally bellicose attitude in check.

Hey, I call them like I see them. Why should BWB not be held to the laws like any other company?

By the way, is that a threat?

and

I was with you for a while there.  I had good experiences with BWB but don't make the company sound stupid.  Heck, even Hellfury's last incident with you guys prompted me to click the link and end up spending money on two separate orders.

Your counter-points are hardly relevant the_trooper. I'm assuming that you are against Hellfury. The first link is about a whack job, and the second is about global warming. Hardly anything to do with the business at hand.

You can all whine and moan all you want about how Hellfury is a poor sport, but regardless of what you believe, Hellfury may have down BWBitz a great service in alerting them to the unlawfullness of their contest.

Much better to have it pulled prematurely and corrected then to suffer a large lawsuit and fine over someone that wasn't able to win for free and is ten times the jerk that Hellfury is.

The law is the law, and thats really all there is to say about that.

Why is that law in place, anyway?

I've got to go with Hellfury on this one.

This is just another example of BWB doing whatever it feels like, hell or highwater. This contest and Hellfury's experience with the company only show an obvious disdain for good business practice. I would even suggest it shows willful apathy for good business practice. It's just a stupid website ran out of some dude's grandmother's basement, anyhow, right? Nobody's going to slap their wrists, right?

Even homeless street-corner bucket-drummers have to follow the law.

Further, in such a niche market, I wouldn't think you'd have the luxury of torquing off a potential customer. I think Hellfury's reaction is testimony to that axiom.

This isn't prison or Woodstock so I don't know how calling Hellfury a narc is going to get anything accomplished.  Hooo-Rah?

I could be wrong, but I don't think The_Trooper's comments were "against" Hellfury, nor were they particularly toward him either, but were instead just pointing out the ridiculousness of e-peen waving and his own good experience with BWBitz.

While I too have had good experiences with BWBitz, Hellfury is quite right: This contest is illegal, just as GW's "WD Subscription Sweepstakes" was. Regardless of one's experiences with BWBitz, it doesn't make this "sweepstakes" any more legal or right. But hey, just because you like them, they can do whatever they want, right?

Why is that law in place, anyway?

It's to prevent compulsive buying in order to gain more chances to win.  It's the sort of thing that Publisher's Clearing House kept getting suited over.
