I did a search, but didn't see anything about this.. let me know if it's already been discussed.

OK, here goes... the wording for Deathwatch Deep-Striking is a little odd.

it says that unless given a rhino, they may arrive via deep-strike.  it's the next part that is odd.  It says the method of arrival is up to the player, Teleporter being one of the choices.

So, here are my questions:

1. If I decide that my Deathwatch are deep-striking via teleporter, Can I use this in conjunction with a teleport homer?

2. If I make an entire squad deathwatch vets (let's say a command squad) for + 5 pts each, they would all be deathwatch and be able to use said rule?

3.  Not having to do with deepstrike, but If I make a model deathwatch, do they get a bolter, Close combat weapon, frag grenades, meltabomb, and true grit?

Just wondering if I'm reading this right or not.  Thanks!

Upgrading models to Deathwatch veterans only gives them access to the special ammunitions, nothing else. As per the Deathwatch rules there is also no change to their profile. Hence they do not get True Grit nor any other special rules other than those specified.

I thought all members of the deathwatch got true grit and all that other stuff.

O, and yes if you decide to teleport you can use homers. If you decide to deepstrike you can use the domaclese (i think it lets you) to reroll the scatter...

Warhammer 40,000 (4th edition) p. 13 defines "profile" rather extensively.  It does not appear to include Universal Special Rules, but just the values for WS, BS, S, etc.

Only a deathwatch kill-team has the deep strike ability. Uprgraded marines only get true grit for the first 5 points, and a special ammo for another 5. I agree with the above that the profile and special rules are separate, and the no change in profile refers to them not getting the deathwatch veteran statline. The rules say "all deathwatch marines have true grit", not just those in kill-teams.

The Deathwatch Rules PDF says nothing about an upgraded Marine gaining True Grit, so exactly what are you basing your claims on? True Grit is only listed a a special rule for a unit of Deathwatch Marines.

In the special rules, it says "True Grit: All Deathwatch marines have True grit." The transport options, however, specifically refer to a deathwatch kill-team. I base my opinion on the fact that the word "all" is unneccesary if not referring to upgraded marines as well as kill-teams, plus the fact that there is a point cost associated with upgrading a marine that would have no effect otherwise. The ammo types would simply be costed at 10 points. 5 points is overcosted for true grit, anyways, so I hardly see a problem with upgraded marines getting it.

And again, you do not use that army list entry. That entry is for a standalone unit of Deathwatch Marines. It means that all Deathwatch Marines in this army list entry have True Grit, nothing more.

You pay five points to upgrade to a Deathwatch veteran which has no benefits other than allowing you to purchase the special ammunitions at a further cost.

WRONG! You get a fancy shoulder-pad, too!

While I agree that by RAW a Deathwatch Vet gets no True Grit, I believe, in my heart of hearts, that a Deathwatch Vet should get True Grit, and I will defend to the death his right to Grit Truly!
