Played a few games last night, and this interesting situation arised. My jetbike unit moved up, flamed a landspeeder, but between the landspeeder and my warlock with destructor was 3 blood angel scouts and 2 blood angel jump packers. Sadly just a single scout died but the landspeeder (one of two in this squadron) was anniliated (woot!)
I charged into combat, my left most jetbike reached the 2nd landspeeder easily, my next jetbike had no choice to but to be right behind the first one, and the last two jetbikes ended up attacking the scout unit as they had no clear path to the speeder. now against the odds I won combat.
The scouts broke, and rolled a 5 on the initative test and I rolled just a 3, so they got away. I was preparing my 3" consolidation, when I was told I was stuck in combat with the landspeeder and wasn't allowed to make the move.
We discussed this for a long time, I showed in the vehicle section that vehicles aren't locked in combat on page (around 70) and on the same page (maybe page 71) that the infantry aren't locked either, and he showed me on the same page that I'm not allowed to consolidate or sweep after a combat with a vehicle. I then told him but I am allowed because I'm not locked and I won a combat against the infantry, referring him to the main assault section in the rule book. After 15 minutes of argueing a friend of mine came over and agreed with the bllod angel player. I let it go at this point.
I still think I'm right.. the question is... am I? and why? Do vehicles rip away your consolidation/massacre if you broke an infantry unit thats in the same combat?
