I know this is OT, but I thought it would be appropriate for most games (and you would want to know). DURHAM. N.C. - That cup of coffee just not getting it done anymore? How about a Buzz Donut or a Buzzed Bagel? That's what Doctor Robert Bohannon, a Durham, North Carolina, molecular scientist, has come up with. Bohannon says he's developed a way to add caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine. Each piece of pastry is the equivalent of about two cups of coffee. While the product is not on the market yet, Bohannon has approached some heavyweight companies, including Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks about carrying it.

I'll take the Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Eggs, Bacon and Spam. With extra Spam please. Oh. And a Caffeine Doughnut to wash it down.

You've gotta wonder. If you take all the funding, and all the great thinking minds that went to building all of these worthless inventions, how many times over would we have cured AIDs and Cancer?

Zero. Research is a very finicky thing, and most people simply don't have the knowledge and/or brainpower to do it, especially with really tricky things like AIDS (caused by a complex retrovirus) or cancer (of which there are many kinds, each with its own cause). As idiotic as stuff like this may seem, much of our economy is based on getting stupid rednecks to buy stupid crap. This falls into that category, and people WILL buy it (especially in Boston, where the Dunkin' Donuts outnumber the Starbucks). Besides, this technology may come in handy at some point; I can see the military being interested in power bars infused with caffeine for troops in the field.

I live in the South, where we have Krispy Kremes, but even those aren't as commonplace. We have one Krispy Kreme, no Dunkin' Donuts, and nine Starbucks. Starbucks for the win!

We had I think 2 Krispy Kremes in the whole state. One in a mall, and one kind of out of the way.
The only thing better than a Krispy Kreme donut is a scarce Krispy Kreme donut.

Besides, this technology may come in handy at some point; I can see the military being interested in power bars infused with caffeine for troops in the field . In early WW2 the German soldiers had chocolates with speed in them. Hilter also thought speed was good cause he did it more then once a day. What a champ. Also if someone tells you to stop smoking (can't smoke anywhere these days), tell them Hitler was a zealous anti smoker, and look where it got him.. (and that if you compare someone to hitler thing you've already lost, only works on the internet cause it's serious business .) On topic.. Caffiene donuts FTL Fat FTL no research for AIds even if its pointless FTL the end.

Someone with a Doctorate in Molecular sciences wouldn't be useful in important research? Thats what I'm driving at. Any Joe Blow can figure out that if you shove a syringe full of caffeine into a donut, your gonna juice someones day up. How much money did he spend researching this? How much further could that money have gone to something that is truly important? How much further could all the money that goes into the countless useless "inventions" like these, go?
