Hey guys,

I'm looking to do get some terrain for a pretty basic table. Flocked mat, trees etc, maybe a house or two. Can anyone hook me up with some links?

Chuck

Go to a craft or hobby store and you can get foam in 1" thinkness. Carve it to shape for hills. You'll have to do your own flocking. Model Railroad shops are probably a good source for trees and stuff. HO scale is good for fantasy/40k. They don't have "fantasy" or "scifi" buildings, but you might find something you can convert.

Go too home Depot or Lowes and pick up a sheet of Pink foam( coat about 15 dollars for a 4x8 one inch thickness sheet)

there are your hills/ building and what ever you want too make out of it and then go too a hobby store and get yourself some flock and sand and some brown and green paint and you have a instant terrian all the hills you want and you can build walls and building out of the foam.

glue gun (3.99 to 5.99)
glue sticks .99cents for (100)
pink foam 15. to 20 dollars 4x8ft sheet
flocking 7.99 to 10.99 per bottle
bag of sand .94cent
paint (apple barrrel 2.99 per bottle)
Cheap brushes(1.99)
Hobby knife or sheet rock knife(3.99 to 5.99) or foam cutter(15.99)
Trees will cost about 7.99 a bag with out flocking but if you look for deals you can get trees with flocking for about 10.99 a bag ( which has about 20 trees)

You might spend about 50 depends on what you have and what you need.

Check out the Warstore (pegasus hobbies) for palm trees.

You'll need a special cutter for the foam, called a hot wire tool.  GW sells one for a hefty markup, but you can get them pretty much at any hobby store.

Or at a Home Depot or the like. A cheap (D-cell batteries in the handle, as opposed to a plug in) hot wire foam cutter is maybe $10. It's endless fun cutting hills with these. You can cut very attractive scalloped and textured sides in seconds.

My shopping list would be much the same. You can easily make a table with hills and woods for $50 in an afternoon, and most of your supplies come with enough material to easily do a few more. You just need more foam and trees.

Don't even need a hot wire foam cutter for the pink, a box cutter will do fine. Just replace the blade when the foam starts tearing instead of cutting. For detail work, a serated kitchen knife & sand paper will get you a chopy/baby smooth finish as needed. While your at Home Depo picking up foam/tools. Look for their OOPs paint, priced at a buck a quart it's invaluable. Terrain builing sucks up paint faster than you can belive. Even the big craft paint tubes will be gone before you know it.

Aye, Home Depot for pink foam, paint by the bucket (I had them custom mix up a can of Scorched Brown and one of Snakebite Leater from the tiny GW paintpots I gave them to run tests from), sand by the 20 lb. bag, PVA glue to stick the sand down. I also used black spraypaint to basecoat the table & terrain before going in with the canned paint. Easy, cheap, loads left for more projects.

I used an old bread knife for about 10 years. Doesn't cut super-smooth... but it doesn't really need to, since I cover everything in a sand and filling-plaster mix before painting.

That first link is an excellent suggestion for cheap trees. If you want to make your own though.....

Paper covered wire from Joanne's or another craft store.

Spanish moss.

Glue

Foam core or what ever as a base.

Cut the wire into thitds, twist one side ar ethe branches and the other the roots, glue the moss to the branches. Quick, cheap and easy.
