Jeez, that mariner is expensive. $5 more than I am willing to pay at retail.

But this is interesting:
PIP 41044 Mercenary Privateer Mr. Walls $9.99
PIP 41045 Mercenary Privateer First Mate Hawk $9.99
PIP 41046 Mercenary Privateer Bosun Grogspar $12.99
PIP 41048 Mercenary Privateer Lord Rockbottom $8.99

Thats a few more that we havent seen yet. Very cool.
I wonder if the rifleman will actually come 3 per blister. [edit] Nope, PP site says one per blister for $5.99)

Alliance is notorious for not being very accurate on prices and quantities.

Some more tidbits, so now all we need is pics of the models and rules.

More from the Upcoming releases:

First Mate Hawke

"Captain Shae's first mate Hawk is responsible for keeping her Sea Dogs ready for action, and she suffers neither fools nor sloth among the crew. She wields a pair of cutlasses, and few can boast to have lived after standing toe-to-toe with her. Hawk's example fires up the men who go to great lengths to catch even the slightest nod of her approval."

Bosun Grogspar

"The bosun of the Talion is a veteran sea-salt named Grogspar. Grogspar enforces discipline with the simple expedient of hurling worthless lubbers over the rail with his hook and is a crack shot with a harpoon launcher as well. Against the rare eventuality of a harpooned foe who lingers, Grogspar makes sure to attach a lit stick of explosives to every shot."

Lord Rockbottom

"The Rhulic pirate Lord Joln Rockbottom is Captain Shae's 'Expedition Financier.' He ensures the pirates are well paid and equipped for the bloody work ahead. Coin is not his only weapon, for Lord Rockbottom enjoys employing a fire-belching firearm that has ended the lives of many who underestimated him."

Mr. Walls UA blister

"Packing more pistols than a paranoid gun mage, Mr. Walls is never seen without his pet monkey. Serving as Shae's quartermaster for the Sea Dogs, Mr. Walls knows how to motivate the men and inspire them to ferocity. His aim suffers from an old injury that took his eye, but he makes up for it by closing to give the enemy both barrels."

Okay, let us review:
  • Female first officer - check
  • Dual cutlasses - check
  • Harpoons with dynamite - check
  • Monkey - check
Here is the link to the PP site that has the upcoming releases for quantities and prices.

My guess is the riflemen will come 3/blister. Probably a unit along the lines of the Khador mages.

The bosun, judging by the price, will be on a medium-sized base, and the name suggests either trollkin or ogrun. Add to that the rhulic (dwarven) solo, and we've got ourselves a pirate party!

Interested to see the new troll warlock as well.

While the Mariner is grieviously priced... The Commadore is even worse.

I can stomache the Sea Dogs box set (which I've already decided I'll buy) and the characters are the standard ten bucks (though I remember buying previous characters for $6.99 or $7.99.) First Mate Hawk's description is worriesome. I want to buy a pirate wench but I don't need another melee oriented solo. If she's a Sea Dogs UA, I'm sold.

The others, I'll need to be convinced of their useability in my current collection before I buy them. They had the Commadore sold until I saw the pricetag.

Grim Angus at 12 bucks is a medium base. Any hopes of a pygmy warcaster (at least in May) have been dashed.

Is Rhyas another Legion female? The Prophet of Everblight chooses good company.

Dynamite laden harpoons?  This indeed is the forefather of the Trident Missile System.

As far as prices go, I am way ahead of the worts.

The sea dogs can be easily repped by a box of emppire militia. There enough pistols to equip 10 men.

The commodore can be easily repped by an empire cannon for considerably cheaper. Many people have those from the days of 6th ed box sets.

If assumptions are correct for bosun grogspar being an ogerish persona, then a ogre kingdoms leadbelcher can be easily modified to fit the bill for that model and still be cheaper.

For the various others, those are also easily proxied by other manufacturers as well.

Tell me this wouldnt make a good first mate hawk...

I am estimating that I can build all the UA's, solo's and casters from a single box of militia if I so chose to. With the help of various other random bits.

Not uncommon, actually, especially among most gamers who have at least SOME GW stuff lying around.

I wouldn't be surprised if my FLGS had this stuff on sale at some point, so the price of most of the stuff doesn't worry me.

That Commodore though: WHEW! That's WAY more expensive than a Khador mortar or Cygnar field gun. That's, like, Thunderhead/Avatar/unique warjack territory. In all likelihood, it's a FA 1 choice anyway, but even so!

The Commadore, for intents and purposes, is a 'Character' weapon. There is only one Commadore's skeleton to be hung from the barrel of the cannon after all.

It would be a first, but I might wager Field Allowance 'C' on the cannon.

(and two sabers on First Mate Hawk... blah.  Saber and gun, dufus.)

Didn't get it from Alliance, but from PP's forums. Don't know where the original poster got it from, but it was apparently from PP's own retailer PDF.

I really like the Mariner, very Jules Vern/20000 leagues.  I'd like ot convert him to be holding that ship's cannon with two hands.

A...a sea-going pirate troll...? *sniffles happily* With a dynamite laden harpoon launcher?  There's a certain amount of genius in this one.  Shame about the hook, though.  Should be a hook hand.  I guess they have to reconcile that trollish regeneration, though.

Good show PP.

I dont like it. But then again, I was planning on making this with a ogre kingdoms conversion.

I agree about the hook hand, but you have to take regen into account I suppose.

Didnt they make a pirate ogre for ogre kingdoms?

Help me out here, noble patrons of Dakka.  While I love all the piraty goodness and, yes, I know there are two warjacks in this set so far... What's with all the solos and unit attachments?  Aside from Shae, every character in this release is a Solo or UA, right?

That makes The Rifleman, Mr. Walls, The Bosun, The Doc, The Yet-to-be-seen Hawk, and Yet-to-be-seen Rhulic Mr. Rockbottom.

First of all, there are more characters than press-ganged pirates.  Second... This is War -Machine- right?  Third, do I even have this many solos and UA's in my standard faction (Protectorate?)

I know this is knee-jerk reactionism AND I am clearly looking a gift-horse in the mouth.  But what the heck is up?

The name WARMACHINE doesn't always refer to the machines used. It refers to the military forces used by the nations currently at war.

I think it is a refreshing change... the mercenary warcasters in the past seem to favor warjacks... one that favors units and solos is nice.

looks like the problem with the pirates will be what NOT to include in your army, nyarlathotep. Never been too big on pirates (more of a ninjas & samurai guy myself), but I'm really loving that Mariner 'jack. Just looks friggen awesome. Too bad you can't take mercenary 'jacks without mercenary warcasters or I'd be all over it.

Yes. You can have an army that is all pirates from this release. The only mandatory choice is Shae, you must have a warcaster. With the Mariner and his little pal you have your warjacks and with the Sea Dogs you have your infantry. And then you seem to have a myriad of solos and UAs to choose from.

The Sea Dogs are a complete army release. No other mercenary group has recieved such attention.

there are alot of companies jumping on the disney pirate movie bandwagon. privateer press is no different.

When the second pirate movie was released, wizkids released its sixth set a month prior to the movie. the set included davy jones, flying dutchman, etc. Enough to not step on disneys toes in the doing. Tthis april, they are releasing a set called "worlds edge". Sound familiar? The last set for the second movie was a huge success. Enormous shortages for that set.

I think the pirate faction for WM will be just as lucrative riding off the coat-tails of disney. Its like free advertisment for any pirate product. Not only are WM players loving it, but people new to the fold such as myself are being drawn into it.

Just imagine what the little kids visiting the game shops to pick up pirates of the spanish main ship packs, or pirates of the caribbean card game will say....

I am sure this will be a very successful line for them, without a doubt.

Het to burst yer bubble, but I don't think so Hellfury. This is not a Disney rip. PP has always had the pirate thing going (hell, look at their name- PRIVATEER PRESS; game promoters are called press-gangers). They had dropped hints of pirates since Prime (Skarre), opened the door with the Revenant crew and then the Ogrun pirates, and are now fleshing them out as a merc sub-faction. Frankly, I think this is something they have wanted to do (and have been working on) for a while.

I do agree, though, that it has enormous crossover appeal. Just like Arthurian knights, Tolkienish elves, etc. Archetypes aren't a bad thing!

I dont doubt the long held piracey theme with PP, there seems to be alot of that for PP.

But do you really think the timing is merely coincidence?
Not that it is a bad thing, as I am not criticizing it, in fact, I think its a brilliant marketting maneuver.

Meh, it may be. But why wait until after the fanfare has died down from the 2nd movie (which didn't have near the success as the first)? So perhaps either I am overestimating their originality or you are overestimating their market savvy....

:-)

Either way, the models look spiffy. Which hurts me deeply, as they must know that I have too much already!
