Introducing: First mate (Lady) Hawk:

She's a pretty good fig, but not 'solo' material. Indeed, Reaper's female pirate captain with two cutlasses would do the same trick.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, Privateer has succeeded at sculpting a female face. But as for the rest of the mini, I guess it's alright. The swords are will proportioned, and the costume is original, God knows they could just have went for a Clyde Caldwell-esque She-Buccaneer and been done with it.

I would kill fifty men if they would make a Rutger Hauer miniature to go with this Lady Hawke.

What was that company that made the mini of Rutger Hauer from Split Second?  Are they still around?  If not I'm going to cry.

I like her. Indeed the reaper girl could do it just as well, but this is a good sculpt.

ZOMG! Virgin alert! Virgin alert! Or are you saying you want her to "stab" you with her "swords" (and what kind of mutant has two, you know, swords)?

I like her. She's not quite as gradoise as the other offerings in this set and I think will be largely muted standing next to them on the battlefield. I'll pose her arms differently and she may receive some kind of conversion to make her stand out a bit more, elevate her off her base a bit.

But I like her, a definate Pirates of Penzance persona.

I think the proportions of the weapons are spot on.  The reaper miniature has ridiculous sabers.

I think that's a great model - the face finally looks right, for a female model.

Surprisingly nice fig, agree on the nice costume and a bit less typical bucaneer wench sculpt. But ... she's $8-12, right? Hmm ...

That's a freaky lil' banana-on-freaky-thing you've got going on Nyarla. I can dig.

Yes, I get the reference. I just don't see how it relates. Why not say she looks like a hockey player from Pittsburgh, it's just as relevant.

Blast! Showing my ignorance of American sports. Well, all sports, really.

But my original point stands... namely, Pirates of Penzance - wtf?

It is a little known fact that when confronted with a comely female, either of full size or in miniature, certain persons will immediately blurt out what seems safest to them, i.e. showtunes.  For some men there are few things more arousing than Kevin Kline's rippling torso and fragrant, tickling moustache.

I  think we have found one of these men...

What, sir, are you implying?

And how do you know it's not Angela Lansbury that is the motivating factor here?

Funny. But there still aren't any female pirates in Pirates of Penzance.

What about Ruth, Frederick's piratical (and hard of hearing) maid?

Good grief.

In my own mind, its not such a random observation. I had seen the show and there were a number of the unnamed, accompanying pirates who were female, in the cast. They had a sort of gypsy, Stevie Nicks thing going on. Lots of scarves and clinky-clanky things.

Anyhow, the association clearly was in my own mind. My appologies.
(I hadn't seen the movie.)

No need, my good man.  You were clearly meaning the generic distaff pirate, nothing more.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Ok guys culturally eductate yourselves:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pirates_of_Penzance

Pirates of Penzance is not (just) a film, but a very old and much loved comic opera. You can have who you want playing, all girl Gilbert and Sullivan troupes are common.

Real pirates and swashbuckling types such as seen in Errol flynn movies and Pirates of Penzance dont have a lot in common. She does look like a cast member/crew of a cliche pirate ship.

Good for her, I hope she likes her rum neat.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Educate yourselves? With Wikipedia? You're joking, right?

And Pirates of Penzance is not a comic opera - it's an operetta. Two completely different things.

Whether the cast is male, female, a mix (slanted in either direction, although more women is more common in amateur Savoyard productions), that still doesn't change that there are no women pirates in the play... with the exception of Ruth, as mentioned above. (And this model doesn't look like the average Ruth. ) Which totally invalidates my original point, so I'll be quiet now.

nothing like talking oneself into a proverbial corner.

sometimes being so literal makes one miss the mark entirely. open your mind, don't be so quick to put your bias onto someone elses remarks and whammo, we don't have miscommunication. Realize that not everyone thinks like you and it's all good. Ask before you jump the gun, then at least when you land waist deep in it, you are prepared.

(yes that is alot of tongue and cheek there, but it's a relevant)

It gets the job done, but it wasnt the site that first came up on Google. Wiki is fine for background information.

Yep, you said it. I guess I deserved that.

Still, my original point stands. A little wobbly and more than likely to fall over at the slightest breeze, but it does stand. Just about.
