I just got done playing a few games at 1750 for the Las Vegas GT (TS pride!).

I use:

HQ: a demon prince with mark, gift, venom, speed, stature, aura.

Elites:
9 man termiantor rubrics, champ has winds, chainfist, bits.

Troops:
2X9 man rubric squad, champ has pfist, winds, familiar, bolt of change, thrall and a rhino with extra armor/smoke.

5 flamers

Fast attack:
5 screamers

heavy support:
dread with lascannon
dread with lascannon

1744 (going to give all champions visage or the lord visage).

What I learned was that the demon prince needs t6 and possibly a 2+ armor save. Every game, he got shot to hell. Possibly partly due to bad rolling and luck considering one of the games, dire avengers got 17 wounds on my t5 lord. I'm also considering giving him +1 wound. Do demon princes rock people's socks WHEN they get into combat usually? Sigh...

The rubric terminator squad, hands down, is a win condition. For the amount of victory points they are worth, just being near an objective is usually enough to get you a win, they CAN kill tons, and they soak up tons of damage. Always a good buy imo.

Rubric squads, they are a staple and always take a decent amount of damage (though, I make on average only 40% of my saves or less). I like giving them two powers, winds and bolt of change. It is expensive, but for what other things I can buy with the points, the utility is immense for the squads.

The 5 man demon units are rather nice distractions to just throw at the enemy. They can harass or take out small enemy units and in the crucible of battle, pull out a win for you since its just that many more scoring units. For me, screamers I love-they've taken down firewarrior squads themselves and so forth and just do all sorts of things. Flamers, they add a nice umph to my shooting phase (if I hit with more than 5/15).

The dreads.... I just like them because they take heavy weapons fire rather than my regular squads. Plus they can hurt the unweary infantry squad and such. If they kill a tank, hurray. They seldom do much of anything but <3. Dread love.

Anyway, hope I didn't bore anyone and if you read it all, thank you for reading my post!

PS what do you think can improve on my list for GT? =D. Thousand sons pride!!

Here it goes! 1k Son Terminators are the sweetness, aren't they? And good use of min flamer squads, I've done the same. On the 2 sorcerer powers, that's your call, but then again I wouldn't take rhinos either. And actually, consider this path, the one I took last I played 1k Sons. It maximizes anti-armor/MEQ fire power at the cost of 1 wound and the rhino/deathtraps.

Your build (think points are right):
9 1k Sons - Sorcerer w/ powerfist, bolt, wind, familiar, thrall; rhino w/ armor, smoke = 347 x2 = 694

Mine:
6 1k Sons - Sorcerer w/ powerfist, bolt, warp focus, 3 thralls = 222 x3 = 666

By losing the rhinos perhaps you lose some maneurverability, BUT you gain 3 powerfist attaks and many more S8 BoC attaks, considering that all 3 squads are throwing 2 a turn for more turns than the 2 rhino squads (who spend turns in transport / pinned / winding things) in your build. Something to think about, and a list I really want to get more mileage out of.

Note that you also save some points, which you can invest into your lord! On that front, I suggest dropping venom - it arguably negates your MC status IIRC - and taking 2 CCW instead. Give him furious charge and essence too, which you can pay for with the points saved from troops and dropping venom. Other than that, you're going to need to keep the big boy a little safer with terrain and such. Maybe be aggresive with the 1k Sons themselves to try to draw fire from the DP?

Hope some of this helps, good luck with the Sons.

One suggestion in regard to your prince and rubric squads. Its a tad pricey but you may want to look at giving at least your daemon prince, and possibely both rubric champions the Eye of Tzeentch. It can really help with your armour saves when facing massed gunfire.

I don't think he can give the DP Furious Charge and the Mark of Tzeentch, can he?  I'll also be bringing Thousand Sons to Vegas.  So I'm sure I'll see you there.  I'll be in an Ordo Fanaticus shirt.

Units with mark of tzeench can not take skills, unfortunately.

Mobility is a problem for thousand sons, the ability to get halfway across the table and psosibly farther in a rhino is quite worthwhile, in my opinion. It really helps when trying to get to an objective, for example.

Monsterous creature still gets his monsterous creature bonus with demonic venom, he just always wounds on a 4+ and gets an extra ttack for it, for 5 points, its pretty nice. Especially against wraithlords or say something similar.

There are cases where bolt of change is VERY good and same for winds, if you give a sorcerer both, you have a ton of utility you otherwise would not have had. From experience, that is something I will definately do more often. I mean, what else would I get for the points saved on a few troopers and pschihc powers? Sure I can probably squeeze out some more little demon scoring units but is it worth it?
