I've tried pretty hard to put together a semi-competitive radical list. Of course, it ends up with enough marines that it's basically a marine list with some wacky elements - still, would appreciate any advice on composition.

HQ

Inquisitor Lord, psycannon, chainsword, Emperor's tarot
2 acolytes, carapace armour, boltguns
2 sages, laspistol, daggers
Mystic, laspistol, dagger
2 gun servitors, heavy bolters - 195

ELITES

Daemonhost - 85

Callidus Temple adept - 120

2 death cultists - 80

TROOPS

6 inquisitorial stormtroopers, 2 plasma guns - 80
Chimera, multilaser, heavy bolter, smoke, extra armour - 93

6 inquisitorial stormtroopers, 2 melta guns - 80
Chimera, multilaser, heavy bolter, smoke, extra armour - 93

6 marines, plasma gun, lascannon - 115

6 marines, plasma gun, lascannon - 115

6 scout marines, missile launcher - 88

HEAVY SUPPORT

6 marines, 2 heavy bolters, 2 plasma cannons - 190

Venerable dreadnought, assault cannon, dreadnought CCW, heavy flamer  - 135
Drop pod - 30

TOTAL - 1499

It's a slow list with no counter-assault.

I'd take out the dread and put in a small assault squad.

Take out the scouts, and put in a Tornado.

The chainsword does nothing for your lord, though I would try to give him a psychic hood also.

Yeah, the chainsword's just because I've modelled it on the figure and it looks pretty badass - gamewise it's just a 1 point CCW. Counter assault, I was thinking of the host / Callidus, but that's not exactly reliable, and the Callidus is definately better off murdering terminators / independants, so fair enough.

So:

-Dreadnought
+5 assault marines, sergeant with power fist
(+3 points)
-Scouts
+Tornado
(+8 points)
-Sage
(+10 points)
+Psychic hood
(-20 points)

Works out nicely. How would you use the Tornado? Fast / skimmer is good, but I'm afraid of it getting popped pretty speedily from small arms fire, especially as the Chimeras are the only other armour on the field.

Anti-Marine stuff will pop Tornados.

Keep it out of sight of most stuff, and use it to get objectives at the end.

You don't want to use the Calidus or Daemonhosts as counter-assault. They will die. Quickly. you use them as 'spoiler' or disrupting units on the enemy. Calidus takes on Dev squads, and Daemonhosts takes on either shooty squads, or squads/units that rely on non str 8+ power weapons (Banshees, Hive Tyrants, Daemon Princes, etc) to tie them up. Don't expect them to win all the time, though it can happen.

Oh...Your Dev squad...8 man with either 4 missile launchers or 4 heavy bolters (With the rest of your army, I'd go missile launchers). Plasma cannons are way overpriced and you don't have enough bullet magnets to protect the heavies.

Fair point on the devs, I basically just didn't want to buy and paint any more heavy weapon marines. But yeah, for only ten points more, 8 marines with 4 launchers is a better choice.
