I want to play with a jump infantry command squad for my upcoming Ultramarines and I was thinking why not take the four command squad characters with jump packs plus one standard Marine with a bolter. Of course the HQ has a jumping pack. Position the squad such that the enemy can only draw LOS to the bolter Marine. Once he is shot down now your command is free to fly about the tabletop and create much havoc.

Hah! I love it; that's hilarious.

However, if they can only see a single model, and that model is only a bolter marine, then why would they bother shooting at it anyway?

Couldn't you just make him a veteran sgt and give him access to the armory?

nah just give him a plasma gun and double tap it every turn whether you need to or not.

Etherdude, that still leaves the one marine he mentioned without a jump pack, since the min squad size is 5+ Character, meaning 5 out of 6 with access(IC, Apoth, Standard, Vet Sarge, and Champ)and 1 without(standard Vet).

It is a great theory but people will ignore the squad because they know that as long as they dont kill that guy your point heavy chars are tied down. Double tapping with plasma when you know you cant shoot the enemy seems iffy for some reason to me.

I love the idea and I like the solution of equipping the poor marine with a plasma weapon. I'm sure you will be more than able to find a way to reliably kill the lead marine.

Vote: Not beardy (and highly entertaining).

You can also equip two or three guys with fists for some truly hiddeously high unit costs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the codex state that jumppacks are for independent characters? If not, it would be the first time a jumppack would be able to be bought to a single squad member (but not all). I'm not sure as I dont have the SM codex.

It would be expensive and not really worth it. To me that makes it not 'beardy'.

Though you might try infiltrating the squad.

Jump packs are available to models with access to the armoury. This would include every model in the command squad except for the lone Veteran Space Marine. The army list entry in the Space Marines codex states that you can give the Veteran Sergeant Terminator Honours, and all members of the squad can get it as well. It also says all specialists with Terminator Honours may select additional equipment from the Space Marine Armoury. It's just too bad that you have to have four Space Marines in addition to the Veteran Sergeant...and Veteran Space Marines with Terminator Honours don't seem to be able to choose anything from the armoury.

Just put the character with a squad of assault marines, you want the extra bodies for casualties anyway since the Power Fist on the sarge will likely do as much damage as the character.

Just seems expensive points wise. The easy counter was pointed out to not shoot at the squad, thus every models moves at the rate of the slowest. Basically, a non threat that has a good chunk of points.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

28 point honor guard vs attaching to 22(25) point assault marines. Yep. Super beardy.
