I'm getting a hankering to do a big sculpting project, and thinking about making something I've wanted to build for a while - Nyarlathotep.  For the curious, I'd be shooting for the Nyarla seen in Nightserpent's artwork, not one of the various forms of The Crawling Chaos that are either excessively amorphous or humans with black skin / leering grins.

But that's modeling concerns, right now I'm scheming how to best represent the thing in 40k, specifically Chaos (I'd likely craft a LatD force around this nightmare).  It needs to be as big as can be, and I care more about survivability than deathdealing.  Here's my initial build:

Lord - MoN, furious charge, stature, essence, aura, rune, mutation, visage, great weapon, ikon, spiky bits, frags = 209

Stats = 6 3 6 6 4 5 4 10 3/5+

That's the nurgle build, designed to stay on the table.  True, armor would help this, at the cost of mutation and visage, but I really think Nyarla should have visage giving the nature of Lovecraft and the Elder Gods!  Note he has no psychic powers, which is largely because I'm unsure what to give him.  Any of them would work, possibly with doombolt lowest on the list, thinking maybe Winds or Gift?

Am interested in other builds, including the other marks, or suggestions on the above.  Keep in mind the art, so no wings and likely no speed - The Crawling Chaos after all

600th post - I can't think of a more appropriate one either, except for the 66th one after this ... have to start the modeling log on that one

You know, a little LatD horde like this:

Nyarla - MoN, furious charge, great weapon, rune, stature, essence, aura, mutation, visage, sorcerer, gift, spiky, frag = 229

AC - MoCU, powerfist, mutation, visage, frag = 65

25 Mutants - flamer, boss w/ great weapon = 166

3 Gibbers = 30

500 even. Would get the big guy on the able if nothing else

You do know that rafm made a Nyarlathotep mini many years ago, right?

Not the best model, but it is a rep.

Though I can understand the need to make another one. The erect tentacle is less than potent in my opinion.

Ah! Quite cool, any idea on the scale? And ... rafm? Thanks all the same Hellfury, I'll see if I can dig up more on that guy ...

Amongst the Stars, In the Night

When I go to a Chaos DP party my loadout varies on how many hot slaaneshi slaves are about... oh, wait a second, you're not asking that are you?

Keep in mind, being the Thousand formed Mighty Messenger and bringer of strange joy to Yuggoth, I could, at varying times, have wings, float about, sprout lots of tentacles and/or have some other form of Daemonic Flight or Speed. Though there is that Crawling Chaos bit. Transdimensional travel is such a tiresome chore so sometimes I'm a little sluggish. Speaking of sluggish, Rackham has two perfect Cthulian Chaos Spawns:

As to a figure an avatar of myself, the RAFM figure Hellfury linked above is ok, though I'd be compelled to ad considerable amounts of details to the body like extra tentacles with teeth, bony protuberances and other such implements of insanity with green stuff. Alas, I'm drawing a blank for other modeling suggestions and as to the rules, well, I'll leave that to someone more experienced in v4 than I (though I think it looks good and fun).

So RAFM was surpassingly easy to find, and has some very cool stuff indeed - Carnivorous Giant Worm, the Dark Young, and the Proto-Shoggoth are especially cool IMO, and I'd get the Proto if it existed locally ...

@ Nyarla Himself - Good point on being able to do whatever I want with this nightmare god, but I think I'm sticking to Nightserpent's pic for inspiration. Which means 3 legs, 2 arms, whippy tentacle head ... though I'm of a mind to open some gapping maws in the head tentacle / torso, to let out The Howling Madness if general toothiness too. Those Rackham spawn are pretty sick awesome, though I'd be spending such a bundle on green stuff for the Nyarl that I think I'd go the poor route and dement the living hell out of some space marines. Always a good time, doing bad things to everybody's favorite mooks.

Damnation, getting excited for this project now too. I've got a CD for the base, need to figure out an armature base, pick up another 36" of GS, go completely mad ...

For your green stuff, The War Store sells the stuff in the two part tube (as well as the tape, which always cures a bit where they meet and tends to get a "skin"). IIRC it costs the same and provides the same amount of GS the 36" roll does.

Well having owned that model as well as most of the CoC Rafm line (even the elusive dhole worm!) It measured roughly (from memory) 6-8" to the tip of that tentacle or around 3-4" to the shoulder from the floor (the model didnt come with a base).

I know the models arent very difficult to find if you dedicate an evening to sleuthing them.

Again, this model isnt that great at all, trust me. Most of the CoC line wasnt terribly good, (with a few keen exceptions).

I would use the model as a guide for making my own, but for nothing else other than that. its just an early ninties era pulp fiction miniatures conversation piece.

Sorry for turning your army list thread into a modelling thread Boss.

@ Nyarla - I have a new tube of GS from TWS actually, it's good stuff just hard to get the ratio blue:yellow consistent (for me anyway). I kinda agree though, maybe I'd stick with the tube for a project this large. Hmm.

@ Hellfury - Honestly this is more of a modeling thing for me, I just want Nyarly to be usable on the table. I had some bad insomnia last night and was figuring how to fit a big nasty DP into my Chaos army, and I think I can jam about 205 points of demon into an 1850 point list. Nyarla Himself wouldn't fit in so well with my undivided boys, so I was thinking about converting Belakor with a nice big tentacle head, wings replaced with loads of spikes and some big weapon for the killing. I'm pretty backlogged with projects until later this summer, so we'll see what ends up going down.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Entertaining Note:  My friend's DeathGuard, who I ally with almost every game at this point, is led by a Cthulu-esque nurgle prince.  A fun bit of continuity, killing stuff alongside the big squid ...
