Subject: I had to drive 5 hours to play a guy from our shop!

In the singles on Sunday, the last game I drug my eldar over to table 38. There was a guy there. Shook his hand and began setting up. Suddenly from the shadows my arch nemesis appeared. Me and this guy (Mr. M) always end up playing each other at the begining or the end of every local tournement. He was nearly on my adepticon team and we have know each other for the longest... The last tourne before this we somehow managed to not meet in the middle and he won it. So there he was! We shook our heads and laughed as there was no way right... we must have just misread and one of us would be off to play our game shortly... NOPE the other guy was wrong! So we set up and played our game just like at home. I took the primary and he took the secondary and tertiary. Anyone else have this happen?

Out of curiosity, did you both fill out the "club affiliation" field when you registered?

If you pre-regged your weekend badge, it was on the menu for the weekend badge. Not sure what happened if you registered onsite.
The software wasn't 100% functional (I know it wasn't used on Sat., but I think it was on Sun and Fri) but it basically is supposed to prevent matchups of people who list the same gaming club unless there's no other options available within the swiss system.
AFAIK, it worked like a charm on Friday, so I thought they were going to use it, but I was stuck in the Fantasy Tent running the BFG tourney, so I'm not sure if they did or not.

We were running an Excel sheet on Sunday for the Championship, maybe next year we will be able to add a few of the upgrades like screening for "club affiliation". Not that it would have helped in the third round - at that point its swiss seating & random chance that puts opponents together.

Interesting how that many people could play, and still I managed to pull that guy. My karma needs to pay off soon

Murphy's law baby. Never fails my buddies and I will carpool a few hours away for a RTT and sure enough out of all the entries we end up playing each other. It's even worse because it usually happens in the early rounds were one of us will knock the other out or tie and knock both out of the running.

In another game I play I always play against a buddy of mine regardless of where we are.
I was in the European Chamionships, and 2 of my 5 games were against the two Irish lads I had travelled with!

For the Team tourny we ended up pulling the only other team from Minnesota(Adeptus Minneapolis members), team Promisebreakers. Which was fine because out of the 10 tourneys that I've played in with most of those guys we've never played against each other. It was by far the best game that we had on Saturday.
