what are the uses of these guys and their guardian jetbike counter parts? they seem very fragil, have limited range, and laser lance seems kinda mediocre, am i missing something? i am asking because i would like to field a farseer with jet bike. id like a unit i can hide him in.

Having str6 power weapons (str8 for an exarch with a star lance) on the charge makes these guys great support-assault troops. Having hit-n-run makes them survivable. However, adding a farseer denies them the hit-n-run; I wouldn't do it. Use a regular jetbike squadron for that.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I agree with Sutekh.

Farseers on a JB would be better in a jetbike squad. besides, its much cheaper that way if youre looking to give him a speedy entourage.

If price isnt an issue, then 4-5 warlocks on a jetbike would be the best choice. It fits right in alot better than crippling shining spears with a redshirt like the farseer by removing the special hit and run.

Something I'm toying with is "abandoning" a character in combat. Don't attach the Farseer to the Spears; charge with both. Spears do their damage and disengage; Farseer (you DID Fortune him, right?) remains behind to lock the remnants in place, and create a LoS blockage.

Concept seems good; still learning the execution.

Best usage: move-shoot-move Shuriken Cannons, in quantity; it's BS 5 in the Spears unit. Add a warlock for Destructor, to get a fast-moving flamer. Use them as points-denial, fast-moving scoring units, and for bait-and-switch (refused flank) deployment sneakiness.

The seer does seem to kill the shinning spears if he is attached to that unit. 3 guardian bikers are at bare min costs 66 points, with a decked out seer that entire squad is around 230 points. survivable and can hold table quarters. fast moving and able to cast doom and fortune. not to mention fun to customize a seer on a jetbike. thanks for the input guys. i think this is what i will do.

Don't overlook Warlocks on bikes. Mighty fine tar pit.

Mighty expensive tarpit. (which defeats the purpose)

The interesting thing about Spears is that while they don't want a Farseer in their squad, they are the aspect that gains the most from having a Farseer.

Rerollable 3+ invunerable saves are nothing to sneeze at, and Guide is quite nice as well given there low number of high powered attacks. (even Doom sees use when up against monsterous critters)

The best way to set this up is probably to *not* have the Farseer charge in. Use the CC to block LOS till your Spears disengage. Most bike Farseers run 160+ points, so its not the kind of unit you can just throw away. Outside of CC just keep him near the 3+ rerollable invunerable save Spears and he should be fine.

either way i think a seer on a bike is the way to go in a mechanized army. he needs to keep up and cast his powers. i like the biker idea alot, they seem like a good support unit for the unit of banshees i have in a wave serpent.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I part agree with Janthkin, but the answer is to have a cheap guardian bike unit, warlock for conceal and use that as the caddy for the Farseer. The unit doesnt unter combat, but shoots instead. Farseer adds Doom and Fortunes his own unit. Shining Spears attack alone.

I cannot see why you would want a Farseer in combat, he is not a tarpit, he is a model with one attack (albeit a good one) He will fail the 4+ invulberable withy reroll 1:4. A vet sgt with fist could take those odds. sorry this is very iffy, and you stand to lose a key and very expensive unit.

Guardian jetbikes are not bad at 22pts for flying MeQ. You can afford to throw a few into combats.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
