Is there any reason this is not a valid combination? Ive looked in the codex and the online FAQ, the entry for Infiltrate is very specific about what cannot be taken with it - speed is not on the list. It seems as though D. speed works in the same way as a steed which is listed but it doesnt say D. speed.

Nope, it's legit. Nasty and legit. Nine out of ten chaos HQs at the UK GT have that combo, last I heard. In the Adepticon FAQ they ruled that Speed prevents you from setting up in Escalation, though the UK GT ruled the opposite, which makes it even more awesome.

Yep, Iam a alpha legion player... and the combo really rocks... at first! but the problem is that you really need to pimp the Daemonic Lord up to make him survive...
and when playing escalation .. you got a big problem.
On the other hand.. assaulting a necron warrior unit in turn 1 with a Dark blade and daemonic visage.... makes a fast phase out.! 8)

With Daemonic speed the lord counts as cavalry..cavalry units are not "foot soldiers" for escalation...

The lord 'moves as Calvary', not 'counts as'.

By this logic all the necron units that "move as" and do not "count as" jet bikes would be aloud to start on the table and I'm not certain but I am pretty sure this is wrong.

The difference is, for some inexplicable reason models with Daemonic Speed are not classified in the back of the rulebook as any unit type. That means we're dealing with a complete grey area of the rules.
There is no current official ruling on the matter from GW.
However, as Ragnar pointed out the UKGT FAQ ruled that they set up as infantry (on the table in Escalation) while we at Adepticon ruled they count as beasts/calvary (and cannot set up in Escalation).
Again, this is a grey area of the rules so you really should talk with your opponent about it ahead of time and if you like to avoid arguments you're probably better off just going with the lesser interpretation (that they don't set up in Escalation).

The problem is that your opponent (if he's the one fielding the Speed character) has a pretty strong argument that the rulebook defines the character as Infantry. Speed doesn't change him from being a "chaos space marine on foot". A character on a Daemonic Steed most certainly IS cavalry, whereas one which is Daemonically fast has no real basis for being called cavalry. That said, the Adepticon ruling is probably more balanced, even if not strictly in accordance with the rules.
