Lost in Space

This is my first LatD list.

HQ
2 Aspiring Champs identically equipped w/ Mark of  Slannesh, D.Speed, D. Strength, D.Visage, Furious Charge, Power Weapon, CCW, and frag (will accompany mutants)

Elites
Obliterator Cult (3)
2x Bloodletter packs (3)

Troops
2x Mutants (15) leaping, icon, 2x flamers, boss w/ power fist
2x Traitors (10) Lascannon, plasmagun, agitator
2x CSM (6) Lascannon, plasmagun, tankhunters

Heavy Support
2x Basilisks w/ indirect
Chaos Spawn (5)

That's five assault units and seven shooting units. This list should be able to handle armor fairly well. But only by canny deployment and concentration of my assault forces will I be able to take on a horde or assaulty army. I'm not sure how this would handle Nidzilla or Mech eldar.

u cant take units of 3 blood letters you have to take units of 5 minimum and CSM are allies to lost and the damned not troops and why are you giving them tank hunters. as well are you sure ur aspiring champions can take that much deamonic equipment and with them as well either drop furious harge or deamoninc strength if you have dont have to drop some deamon equipment any way id also give them a bolt pistol each

This is a pretty decent list!  A few points of interest:

1.  I don't think you can take Bloodletters in groups of three, but even if you could, you don't want assault units to be that small.  They'll simply be overwhelmed.

2.  Mark of Slaanesh is OK on your aspiring champions, but striking earlier isn't necessarily a benefit.  You may want to consider the (admittedly expensive) Mark of Undivided to give the reroll to leadership test.  Also, by sticking the Aspiring Champion in with the mutants, they have all those meat shields, so a powerfist and daemonic mutation will give you five STR 9 swings on the charge.

3.  Obliterators are looking like they'll be moved to heavy support when the new Chaos Codex comes out in September, so you won't be able to use them in this army anymore.  This is still just rumor, but it's a persistent rumor.  I myself just traded my Obliterators out for Chosen.

4. Traitor squads are tricky.  You're paying 8 points a model for an infiltrating guardsman with lower leadership.  There are two schools of thought on this:
  A)  Give them an Agitator (to keep them around) and add a few more bodies to protect that BS3 heavy weapon.
  B)  Keep them cheap and small (I run a naked 6-man squad w/ lascannon) because you WILL lose them, so don't invest many points.
This is up to you.  Just be aware that no matter how you slice it, they're fragile squads.  Another thing to consider is to give them icons if you have the points.  They are infiltrators, and can give you another option for dropping your daemons into play.

5.  You may want to consider a few autocannons in your army; I'd suggest this on Chaos Space Marines with Tank Hunter; these will help you deal with pesky skimmers.

Hope these suggestions help!

If you're curious, you can see my list here; I just posted it a few days back.

Oop the bloodletters are supposed to be units of 8.

Franki have you even read Latd? The Aspiring champ can have upto 75 points of stuff from the armory and these only have about forty. These are not squad upgrade champs.

The Mark of slannesh and equipment combo on the champs means on the charge he strikes at I6 S6 four times with a power weapon. A powerfist would negate the initiative bonus that allows him to beat SM characters in combat. The mutant boss's fist follows up with a few more S6 attacks.

Vet skills are not legal on those asp champs.

Lets be clear

pg 43 "Each Champion may be equipped with upto 75 points of items from the Chaos Space Marine Armoury, with the exception of Marks of Chaos..."

So yes they can have veteran skills

Now I dont have my book in front of me but cant you not use vet skills if you are in a unit that doesnt have them? So the f. charge would be pointless if they are runnign with the mutants.

The aspiring champ would be the only one to benefit from the Furious charge. It is not like putting infiltrate on the vet sgt and then infilitrating the entire squad.

I know what your saying but i would check the rules on it. I coulda swore there was a rule about vet skills on chars only working if the squad has it too.

Hello Dakka!
Vet skills
There is also the opening page of the lost and the damned list that says
"veteran skills: Only Chaos Space Marine units can choose veteran skills"

To which everybody jumps up screams around alot saying why are you persecuting me, trying to stop me having an infiltrating bloodthrister etc etc.
So Andy Hoare in the outdated LATD FAQ said
"Q) If you give an aspiring champion the skill infiltrator can he still lead a squad of traitors and the whole squad retain the infiltration special rule?

A) Yes
"
Whilst not explaining the core problem with a solution (he also went on to say the lieutenant\heretic was fine to use as a demonvessel etc contradicting so many different rules), if you take the obsolete FAQ as the way, then how has a chaos aspiring champion, rebelled and no longer part of his squad, who now takes up an HQ FOC slot and is bound to a unit of mutants considered a "chaos space marine unit" really a bit tenuous.(although the terms charector and unit are used in a thousand different ways this really is pushing it)
I've previously raised it over in warseer.General response was its fine for champs to take vet skills, but I'm not sure why. Has it come up on this sites rules forum?

You're going to want to take this to the You Make the Call forum (aka The Mosh Pit).  Expect a lot of mouthbreathing mixed in with the quality posts.

Also, this is kind of borderline, but etiquette dictates that old threads should not be posted to, bringing them back from the dead  (thread necromancy).  If you're still interested in a topic, simply start a new thread to get the discussion going again.

Welcome to Dakka!

This is my first LatD list.
And, oddly enough, your last LatD list as well.

The armie's going to be illegal by year's end. Enjoy it while it lasts...

What HBMC means is that the new Chaos Space Marines codex will invalidate many of your choices; my LatD is still under construction, and is being mothballed until the new Daemonworld codex comes out next year (which supposedly will have a Lost and the Damned list in it).  We'll see.
