umm, the list isn't legal. You need a command section for your infantry platoon.

As for tactics.... this is just bad. You should max out your heavies and specials, especially at 700pts. Lascannons might be a bit of overkill at this level, i'd swap the squaddies LCs for autocannon/plasma. I'd drop the commissar completely, he's a 75pt gift of pts to every opponent you face. Take that 75 pts and buy your required command section, and give them 4 flamers. Buy Iron Discipline (basically mandatory for IG). Here's a new draft of your list:

Ideally, I'd drop the armoured fist entirely, and either field a conscript platoon (80pts) or a 6 man grenadier plasma battery (96pts for two plasma guns and a Plasma Pistol). that'll free up enough points to buy more flamers or a missile launcher for your platoon JO. I'm assuming you're going with the models at hand, so I tried to work it as well as possible.

so, a quick Question, why go for 4xFlamers instead of £x grenade Launchers??? and why 3 Heavy Bolters on the LRBT as it can only fire either the battle cannon OR the HBolters?

Stormtroopers can be purchased as troops via the Grenadiers doctrine. They can't infiltrate or Deepstrike, but retain all other options. The plasma battery is 6 men (one above minimum for optimal cost vs. survivability), with two plasma gun (80 pts so far) A lot of players also vet a veteran sgt. and buy him a plasma pistol (only 16 pts more for the pair), giving you a 96pt squad that can spit a lot of plasma death. At extreme low points (under 1000), the IG have trouble taking two good troop choices, and this really helps.

As for flamers over grenade launchers, I'll be the first to indoctrinate you into one of the IG's holy mysteries: Grenade Launchers are a joke, inserted into the codex to fool the unwary. This joke is helped along by the cadian sprue, which includes them in great number. The only real advantage is being able to move and then shoot 24", but all they shoot is a single S6, AP4 shot at BS3. A squad with four will barely average a single glance on AV10, and less than a single wound on Marines. There's a saying around the IG: While it's possible there's a thing as too much plasma in your army, nobody has every actually seen it. When it doubt, take more plasma.

Finally, sponsons or no sponsons on an LRBT: this is a perennial debate. It's only 10 pts, but as you point out, you plan to fire the battle cannon every turn. Here's why you take sponsons:
1) Firing at long models. You only get one chance to hit, wound, etc. with the battle cannon. 9 shots can result in some fancy stepping by a single model, especially if it's a long lascannon in 4+ cover.
2) Light vehicles: 9 shots gets you about a glance and a half on average on AV10. the most you can possible get with the BC is one.
3) shooting into cover.

hmmm, i can see the method to the madness... and even though the grenade launchers are a bit pants, isnt the S4 AP5 Template a bit naff as, well.. if i'm that close as a guard unit... death awaits... you already said to go with the plasma...

so... hmmm, i think i have been won over on the LRBT, sponsors are in... and im interested in the plasma usage.. so that will be tried, and i may try a storm troopers squad... hmm...

as i have 10pts left, is a demolisher silly??? i mean, i have a friend who enjoys his DS termies... so an AP2 Ord weapon is tasty, but 24" range, AND 10pts extra...

Demolishers are pretty good, especially against termies. At such low points it could be hit or miss. I mean, that blows up and you've lost a large chunk of points. But if you know he's packing termies it could be a good investement. If you do take the demolisher plasma sponsons with a hull heavy bolter are a good load out.

Alternatively you could upgrade your hellhound. If you drop a plasma gun off your command section, use the 10 extra points, and drop the sponson bolters off the russ you could buy another bare bones russ w/ hull heavy bolter. I'd rather have two russes than a demolisher, especially at such low points. Against most armies two AV 14 tanks at 700 points is tough. If you really like the sponsons you could drop two plasma guns, one off each command section.

admitably good.. but we also have 2 eldar players, and pathfinders are practacally invinciable with fortune and a 2+/3+ cover save.. so the hellhound gets it on that point, along with it just being a cool idea... it really hurts most troops, only power armour hurts, so against swarms it is VERY tasty...

Basically, you roll to hit with the template anywhere within a 24" range, if you hit, all definates and partials are hit, if you miss, roll a 4+ for each base under the template, that means that 75% of all models you cover will be hit... against T3 eldar (or any T3), it wounds on 2+, added to that is its AP4 and S6... so insta-kill Farseers... just makes it tasty... hence i would prefere that to the having an extra LRBT with cannon due to them still getting cover-saves... *bloody Pathfinders... :-@...
